G35 for a High School 17 year old?
My son is going to be 17 years old and this looks to be his number one choice of car...he shows me many mods and pictures of this car everyday. Do you think this is a good car for him?, he's a very good driver. What are some pros and cons about this "whip"?

I got my G sedan when I was 16, I get a lot of cops attention, due to my tint & exhaust & kids who have worse cars than me get a little jealous and end up vandalizing my car a lot...prolly not the best first car, get him a older miata if he wants a fun car, or a acura RSX if he wants something nice & modable.

Im 17 with a G35 and i love it. it wasnt my first choice for cars but i love it so much now.
IMO, a G is a great first car because its fun to drive, sexy, and still classy. if i were to drive this car to a professional job 10 years from now, id feel so much more confident that driving a ricey civic or something else i bought in high school. it isnt great on gas but as long as ur child doesnt race and what not, it should be fine as a daily. And, ive never been pulled over by the cops despite my tints and exhaust (although my exhaust is pretty quite until high revs AKA sleeper). as long as they drive safe and dont do stupid things to catch the cops attention, they should be fine. BTW i live in Cali Bay area so there are alot of cops roaming.
Good luck on whatever you choose to get for him! It is a great car, and tell him to join this forum if he gets it! people here are amazing and incredibely friendly!

I got my first G35 at 17, and I crashed it to the point i was lucky to survive, all within a week. I don't think anything RWD is a good beginner car, especially with a manual trans. I now have a 2004 G35x all wheel drive, and it's the same car but toned down a little (can't spin the tires, four doors, etc). It's actually for sale if you live near Kansas City
But if you trust your son to drive responsibly, let him go for it. if you have any doubt, don't.

He is only a good driver when your in the car. I got into 2 car accidents when i was young. I was still learning to drive at that age. At that age insurance will be high with these cars. These cars are classified as Luxury sport as you probable know. I say a good car for him will be an older accord, RSX, corolla, something along those lines. When he gets older then something w/ a V6. My uncle told me that for someone that is young should not be driving anything with power because all they want to do is go fast really fast.

My first car was a 2001 Trans Am and the above statement was true for me as well. I did tons of stupid stuff in that car but I loved it will my heart! All the above statements are true- it all depends on your son. Do you think he is responsible anough to handle a G? It's no Trans Am, but it still has a lot of power and it's fun to drive. In all honesty, looking back at the **** I did in my TA as a teenager, I wouldn't get one for my son now. I got multiple tickets for speeding. I got a ticket for racing a WRX STI on I-10 in San Antonio while I was going 100 MPH. I once raced a Porche 911 on I-10 and hit 165 MPH while I was doing it! I raced mustangs, cameros, and my personal favorite Civics on a daily basis. I went through a set of tires in about 2 minutes doing doughnuts behind home depot- twice. I also took it to the 1/4 mile track in San Antonio almost every weekend. All in all, it's amazing that I'm still alive right now. I beat the hell out of that car and had TONS of fun in it but I probably had no business driving it.
Hope this helps.
