My G makes weird ticking sound please help!

hey there, i went out and traded in my tahoe 2 fridays ago for a preowned g35 with 48000 miles on it... anyways im hearing a ticking noise when ever im sitting in neutral... soon as i push the clutch in it goes away.. it sounds like its coming from underneath. Is this a regular sound for a manuel G, my mom has a auto and i never heard this on her car? I can hear it sitting in the car and outside of car... to me sounds like coming from underneath and not in the engine compartment at all... please help...

Hm well I get the ticking noise after driving it around for 5 or more mins. It's considered normal. I hear ticking noises almost every second while I'm in neutral after driving the car.

thanks for the quick replies... It happens from when i start it to when i shut it down..the car has stillen exhaust on it so maybe it could be the exhaust... or the converter, but why would that sound not happen when i push the clutch in?

I have the same ticking after hard driving. I have heard that the z-tube/pop charger is the cause....anyone else have an opinion?

I believe it is the clutch, as mine does the exact same thing. When I push in the clutch pedal, it goes away. My G has 36,000 miles and it makes this noise, and my dad's has 18,000 miles on it, and it makes this noise. I brought it up to the dealer, and he said they all do that and it is considered normal.
Hope that helps. I'm not too concerned about it since there is a significant amount of warranty left.
Enjoy the ride!

I had the opposite symptoms from you. Mine would make a ticking noise going into 1st and 2nd. I just got it back yesterday and all they did was regrease and retorque the axles. Do you have warranty? If so, bring that **** in so they can at least tell you what that noise is.

Is it a quickly repeating lower pitched tick, because mine sounds like that when not in gear with the clutch out.

sounds more along the lines of a throwout bearing in the transmission since the noise is going away when you push in the clutch

^-- thats a good explanation too, I didnt necessarily mean specifically the clutch, but I know it is related to pushing in the clutch pedal, and the throw out bearing would be a possible culprit as well. Like I said though, my car does it, and so does my old man's, so i think its pretty typical.
