Just got my new Coupe today. 5A, DesPlat/Willow, Prem/Sport, Splash Guards. This car is a perfect blend of practicality (hauls my kids when needed) and pure sport adrenaline! Coupla questions: Break-in, how many miles and any restriction on RPMs? Anyone else remove the splash guards (they happened to be on my vehicle at no charge)? Dealer will remove them if I wish at no charge. What do you guys think about the look with them on?

Don't remove! They look good and protect your car. You're sure they're not listed on the window sticker?

guards will keep dirt, pebbles and tar from getting on the car. personally i like them and had them put on. but aside from practicalness, it's a personal taste.

The only gripe I have about splash guards is that although they may help to keep the rear sections of your car cleaner, they have to be cleaned individually as well! So? You are still doing the same amount of work other than possibly protecting your rear quarters from some rock and pebble damage. I guess it all boils down to individual taste as to it's looks. I think the car looks cleaner without it. But that's just my opionion.

Nope. Not on sticker. They had hard time finding my vehicle. Great dealer experience.

Going to hang on for a while and see what kind of road trash appears on them. I assume if dealer takes off for free, they will keep. Desert Platinum

Re: Love my new Coupe!
i myself verified with the dealer before i picked up the car, the motors have been run for hours before being put into the cars. there really isn't a break-in period like there use to be.

My salesman told me the same thing, but after consulting with several better informed people, I found out it just isn't the case. Evidently Nissan is one of the few car builders who do NOT break in engines fully at the factory. It's strongly recommended that you follow the break-in procedure described in the manual. In short, it's about keeping the revs under 4K and the loads light for the first 1200 miles. Note that this is an unusually large amount of mileage for a break in period.

What I and most others found was that at the very least, the fuel mileage will improve dramatically during the breakin period; ample evidence by itself to prove to me at least that something important is changing inside the engine. Like seals and bearings wearing together, reducing friction losses for example (I'm not an expert on this though).

Regardless of what your dealer told you (and he obviously hasn't read the G35's manual), you would be very well advised to follow the factory's recommended procedure, if for no other reason than peace of mind. Many of us have also had the oil changed right after break-in, which couldn't hurt either.

i will keep that in mind for sure, i have to admit i've taken it above 4k a few times. it's just to hard for me to baby it that much. but i haven't been near as hard on it as i could be, i've taken it pretty easy for the most part. thanks for the follow up though, all info is greatly appreciated

Re: Love my new Coupe!
The bottom line is that there is no broad agreement among professionals regarding engine break-in, so nobody really knows what is best.
