+100

This car is definitely fastest when shifting at redline, as are almost all cars, with the exception of diesel trucks, probably vipers, and possibly heavy turbo/supercharger applications.

250lb-ft*6200rpm*HPconstant = 218lb-ft*7100rpm*HPconstant

So unless your torque is dropping off by more than 30 lb-ft in that last 900rpm, then you should be shifting to redline. It's also important to consider the momentum lost in the 1-2 shift if you shift earlier than redline.

Also what he^^ was saying,

100lb-ft* ~3.8 (first gear) = 380 lb-ft
100lb-ft* ~2.3 (second gear) = 230 lb-ft

meaning lower gear equals more power to the wheels

To the thread starter-- It has to be the car if you still get spanked from a roll, obviously if the car's fine there's nothing else it could be but the driver.

What the f*ck are you guys talking about? The Z is a faster car and has ALWAYS BEEN the faster car, it may be by a tiny margin, but its still faster. Its possible to beat a Z but thats because the Z driver must suck terribly. If the drive of the Auto Z knew how to torque brake, he'll eat u up even harder. I think the problem here is the driver. Your launching way to high buddy, there is absolutely no reason to launch at 4.5K. Launch at 2.5K and dont give full throttle until you lock up, flooring it while still spinning doesnt help at all. Also, the whole f*cking point of the Rev-Up is the higher redline, take advantage of it, and shift at redline, you are producing peak power all the way upto it. Whoever posted to shift at 6200 is moron. The closer you shift to redline, the further you will be in the powerband in the next gear. Practice your launch and you should be able to edge out on the Z since he's auto.

No its not a drag car and no one expects it to be... But racing a auto 350z should be an easy kill with a 6MT.
Hardly. Maybe in 1940, but today the difference in tranny's is very miniscule in a 1/4mile run...maybe .1 at most, unless 1 gets unfavorable conditions.

Sometimes it does happen and someone is the unfortunate and is given a slow car from the factory...my father was a engineer for GM for years back in the day so he knows alot about cars and he said he would remember with the corvettes you would have 2 of the same exact one roll of the assembly line and 1 would be 2 cars fast than the other for whatever reason...just happens sometimes. I have a 03 5at with cai and exhaust and i run 14.1 at 99mph i think i just happend to have gotten a fast G (or we broke it in perfect) cause i was beating this 350z that had exhaust, headers, pipes, and a CAI. he was running 14.3 all night at 98mph....i guess what im getting at is sometimes there is just a slow one out there have it looked at.

yes the 350Z is the faster car and should pull auto or not by a minimum of a car length on the G 6mt or not .... for those of you who say you have beat Z's stock then you got lucky and the Z driver could not drive .... id ont know why your friend in the auto Z was posting 15 sec 1/4 mile passes because thats pretty sh*tty too,

moto of this post - 350Z is FASTER then the G stock for stock auto vs. 6mt it doesn't really matter.

When VDC takes over, it limits wheel spin by breaking and cutting engine power. With VDC off it won't interfere, and you can break the tires loose a bit.

Personally I would never turn it off unless the roads are dry. There are too many threads about I totaled my car on the freeway on ramp, with VDC off.

I redline about 7300 rpms or as close to 7400 as possible. And please do not say it is the driver . I want to take it to the track and see what i can really do, but i feel that i will just embarresed myself. I am bone stock right now, and i know this car is rated atleast 99pmh in the 1/4 and it is no where near that. My old car was way faster than this....
You've got to release the parking brake!
