Yeah, I seriously think that a 5AT will beat a 6MT 8 out of 10 times. I've test driven 3 6MT sedans. Most manual drivers don't have a clue on how to race and especially launch. I don't street race, but the 5AT is terribly easy to launch, gets easy 2.1 60 foots, and auto makes for quicker reaction times from light. As for you walking away hard on autos, I don't know what to say because my auto has typically does high 97s/mid 98s stock. Haven't you only run 14.7s or something like that? My traps are right in line with what "most" stock 6MTs see. With that said, I do believe that a well driven 6MT will typically see 1mph faster traps since the 6MT typically puts down an additional 10whp over the auto, but in terms of ETs, the 5AT's ideal gearing and high stall TC allow it to achieve strong 1/4 mile ETs.

Sounds sexist to me. You don't have to be a male to drive 6MT. I'll drive my 6MT in traffic anytime, anywhere.

6MT. There is absolutely no reason to get a sporty car in auto; even some 5AT owners regret their choice.

yes i have ran 14.6 at 97 on my 6mt long time ago when i just had 10 month experience on my car and yes back then i didn't know how to launch for crap (had 2.3 60 time). Infact i recenlty figured out how to launch the car properly. But all that aside, I was one of the fastest Gs there (ask toptone). U can't compare one dragstrip time to another in different times. Weather, dust on the asphalt, wind and altitute make a lot of difference. I have done numerous highway runs with other auto G35s and trust me from 60-130 is not a pretty site.

G35 auto 0-130 = 32.2
G35 6mt 0-130 = 27.5

did a quick search and this is what i came up with.

i love my coupe 6mt and i wouldnt trade it... but i had an AT on my g35 sedan loaner and it actually felt faster just puttin the pedal to the floor. its not a faster car, but it feels faster around town. as i said, i wouldnt trade my car... but i know that a lot of my car's potential is untapped a lot of the time bc the AT does a lot of the work for you thats harder to do when you're doing city driving and you don't have a race track at your disposal

Manual all the way. I have yet to own an automatic car, and thats the way I like it. But if you have never driven stick and are concerned with the traffic, then you may want to go with the auto.

It all depends... how coordinated are you?

i know you what mean, they gave me a g35x as a loaner car, and it does FEEL quicker around town, however I raced my friends 05 accord v6 coupe with it and we were exactly dead even to like 70, with my 6mt coupe i eat his food.

If you think about it the auto has the same amount of power with one less gear. It only makes sense that the car with the extra gear is going to be quicker.

What's up with all the posts complaining about shifting in and out of first in traffic? Don't you people keep any distance between you and the car in front?? I often times hit traffic with my 6mt and I usually stay in second - doesn't feel any different than an auto as long as you pay attention to keeping a nice open spot in front of you.

Yup, as long as you keep moving, 2nd gear should be fine. There is certainly no need for 1st unless you come to a complete stop. And even then you could still use 2nd, although not recommended.

My 5AT's first pass ever was a 14.65@97.5mph with a high 2.3 60'. On the next pass I loaded up the TC a bit more and did a 14.45@97.5 with a low 2.2 60'. Density altitude conditions on that day in may at the time were close to 1,500'. I know an acquantince at my track that owns an 04 6MT sedan. He also owns an 11-second F-Body he races avidly. On the same day I was running 14.3-14.4@~98mph, he was running 14.3-14.4@~98mph. Our 60 foots were nearly identical, though he usually eeked me out by about .05 seconds of so, sometimes dipping into the 2.0s. But the point is, on the same track, same day, and with a very competent driver, the 6MT is right in line with the 5AT assuming the 5AT understands how to launch the 5AT and that manually shifting the 2-3 and 3-4 are crucial to getting good times. If left in D, the 5AT shifts way too early. The 3-4 shift comes up at ~89mph or 6000rpms which drops the car WAY out of the powerband. You must hold 3rd till atleast the high 90s. I leave mine in 3rd the whole run which means I'm at close to 100mph when I cross the finish.

G35 auto 0-130 = 32.2
G35 6mt 0-130 = 27.5

I believe it. At speeds over 100-110mph, the 6MT definitely has the advantage thanks to it's better gearing and lower drivetrain losses. Also, I'm willing to bet that those tests left the 5AT in D which will severely hamper 0-130mph times.

Don't forget that the X weighs about 220lbs more than the RWD and has a bit more drivetrain loss thanks to spinning three additional driveshafts and a transfer case.
