I agree atlanta traffic is very bad. One of the main reasons why i got the auto. But I do wish at times that it was a manual.

If I left at 4pm, it took an hour. If school is in session, then add 15 minutes each way. Taking the highway or side streets results in the same commute time. Often times I was crawling along at 2-5mph. There's no way I'd be caught dead driving a manual in that type of traffic, clutching in and out constantly to keep the motor from stalling along with dealing with the rolling hills in the area.
You speak the truth there! I worked Downtown and lived in Duluth. Traffic would just stop. Some times it would take an hour to a hour and a half to make that 30 mile commute.
I had a Corolla GTS with a stick and sold it three months after moving there.

All of NJ is easy street compared to Atlanta.

Might as well get the 5AT, since all the other ladies on this site seem to be satisfied with automatic transmission.

ok, I kid I kid,

It is smoother with an average MT driver. But someone who knows how to drive the car the smoothness is not noticable although it takes atleast a year or so to get hang of the smoothness on the MT.

I got an auto because I work in San Francisco and I didnt want to deal with the hills and traffic in a manual. I have no regrets. A lot of the previous posts were refrencing things such as 0-130 mph. Sure a 6mt is faster, but how often are you going to do that? You also lose 10 lb. ft. of torque with the stick. And if you're in LA, and i've seen the traffic there, I doubt you will be doing anything sporty. And for everyone who says get a 6MT because the G is a sports car, makes no sense. The G isnt a "Sports Car" its an Entry Level Luxury Sports Coupe. Its not a carrera or a Vette, it's meant to suit everyones tastes! So I strongly suggest the 5AT if you're in the city. If youre in a less urban area then I would suggest the 6MT because you can actually somewhat take advantage of the extra control you have. BTW, the automatic transmission isn't bad at all, the shifts are MUCH quicker than my bimmers which also has steptronic.

Is it true that you lose 10 lbs of torque with the 6MT?

I have the 5AT and love it. It shifts real fast and smooth. With Gordgee's Grounding Gear it can shift even faster.

I think you have no other choice being that you live in L.A. and despite some ignorant posts, there is nothing wrong with driving an AT. No room for error.

An AMG V8 engine with 5.5 litres of displacement, 367 bhp and 376 lb-ft of torque — Mercedes-AMG GmbH is rolling out its most sporty C-Class ever: the new C 55 AMG. With these figures, the AMG high-performance car has posted new records for its segment. The eight-cylinder top model guarantees excellent driving performance and ensures the very best in driving pleasure thanks to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT five-speed automatic transmission that employs steering-wheel shifting.
Save your money, get some wheels and for a few hundred you can get the extra hp with Z-tube, K&N, and MD plenum spacer.

Okay, please dont stone me for bringing another can of worms out. But there was a post on here in re. to a Beamer having a better transmission. I have not test driven one. My ex designs them and I have ridden in plenty of BMW's. I love how they are solid. Test driving one to figure out whether I wanted a G35MT or 325i only crossed my mind twice. But now its coming up again. So for those of you with actual EXPERIENCE with driving comparison of the two please reply.

Like I said, I dont know how to drive stick yet. But whatever car I get, I believe it to be a stick. After reading these posts btwn the g35 vs the 6MT, MT it is. Now its 325i vs g35 6MT.

Let the good times begin...!
G35 is way more reliable and that is one of the reasons I chose it. That and the fact that it is the sexiest. Check out Consumer Reports. BMW's have average reliability and Infiniti's are high on reliability. Not to mention there are way more BMW's on the road.

I enjoy situations like you describe above. I simply manually downshift into the appropiate gear and hold it. The only real downside I see in the 5AT during these situations is the very small lag of the torque converter on throttle inputs below 3500rpms. However, the 6MTs I drove were pretty dang laggy too on initial tip-in thanks to heavy dual mass flywheel which weighs within 3 lbs of the fluid filled TC on the 5AT.

The 5AT can execute the upshift in about 80% of the time I would take me to speed shift my manuals. As for downshifts, there's no real difference between the 5AT manual downshift and the manual "speedy" downshift. The amount of time it takes the 5AT to downshift feels a lot longer simply because there's only a flick of the wrist. With the manual, you must clutch in, move the shifter, rev match, and clutch out.

You should really get the one that you think best fits you. Both the AT and MT are awesome cars and on equal performers, so it is really up to which one you prefer.
