Cleaned the Mass Airflow Sensor....

Had a day off of work and school so i went to my dads shop and picked up some electrical contact cleaner (his company builds guages so they use the right stuff). Took the MAF sensor off to clean it (had soooo much built up dirt) and then put it back in...i just took it out for a spin and the throttle responce is so much better the car seems to pull harder as well.....

Figured i would give a little write up on it. I would say that this cleaning would be an easy way of gaining a few ponies.....

Hmmm...heard of doing this a long time ago.
Thanks for the reminder.
Curious though, how many miles did you have on your odo before cleaning yours?

It doesn't hurt to take a few minutes to clean it out at any mileage.

If you dont have cleaner handy, just wipe AROUND the actual sensor, then with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol, you can carefully clean the sensor. Be sure to not drench the Q-tip either...

Why would there be so much dirt building up on it? Have to wonder if you use an oiled filter like a K&N, if that might worsen the situation.

sometimes isn't just dirty because if we use after market filter then we will spray the filter oil after we clean the filter. But sometimes oil can be over spray because there isn't any accurate amount that you can spray. Plus tiny loose dirty will pass the filter day by day and that is how you get dirty build up on the sensor. I found out this product at the sema show this year. The Brand is called CRC ( Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner ) and the web site is www.crcindustries.com.

Cool...thanks...haha...uhh yeah that's a lot of miles
Have fun at the track.

And thanks all for the other posts and info from everyone.
I know, I know...this is your thread, but really appreciate this reminder and need to make it one of my normal service to do's.

Wonder if this will help my A/F ratio. Running lean with my rev-up VQ per my dyno pulls. Or it's just the dreaded California emissioned tuned ECU.

One of the best reasons to use an Amsoil or AEM dry filter I've ever read. (I am a K&N veteran user, as in 'not any more').
It is fortunate the Nissan sensor is so easily cleaned compared with a lot of cars.
