Xenon HIDs

Does anyone else think these lights are not "bright?" I for one would have liked a better set of xenons. I can sometimes barely tell that my headlights are on, or maybe I'm just an idiot. What do you think?

Re: Xenon HIDs

Unfortunately, our G's did not come with projector type Xenons. Its for this reason, I believe, you feel they're not as bright or powerful, but the truth of the matter is, they're much brighter than at least two thirds of the cars out there right now.

A few people here on this forum have actually adapted projector type Xenons (I remember seeing someone who used a set from bimmer) into their G's, and I for one, will be performing that same mod using a set of used Porsche Xenons I picked up. I have yet to get my hands dirty with that job, but when I get into, I'll be sure to post some pics.

Sounds good. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking along these lines. I don't know much about xenons at all really, so this is good to hear. I know my friend has an M3, and his xenons are like F'ing sunlight during the night. Thanks.

I hear you man, I didn't post this for the hell of it. It pisses me off. The only time I am happy about the headlights is when I'm right behind a car or up against a wall. Then they look great. Otherwise...garbage. Oh well, glad I'm leasing it. I hope finding things wrong w/this car doesn't become a habit w/me.....

Re: Xenon HIDs

To my knowledge.. Nissan uses the same HID's in Altimas,Zs,Maximas and Gs. I used to have those hid's in my old car.. and for some reason, they are brighter in any other car.. just not the G.

Re: Xenon HIDs

Correct me if I'm wrong .. But didn't some ppl fix the problem by switching out their bulbs for some others? Including their fog light bulbs?

Actually My Zenon Lights in My Last Car Acura CL TYPE-S were reflector type. They put out a Wicked Beam that lite up Real Good. I was kind of Dissapointed with My Zenon in the G. The Acura dispersed light much better and I like the Color much better. Sorry if I misspelled Just made it homew from the Club. Re: Xenon HIDs

Hey i just changed my bulbs from the stock 4100 K to the 8000 K from philips. I am in the process of making a DIY site for how to change the bulbs. After the new lights i lost a little bit of sight on the road. So i went ahead and adjusted the lights. Now i can see even better. I made the light come up higher and go out wider. It is comparable to my 3 series Xenons. But since i changed the bulbs the lights are pretty close to purple. (Higher # k, the purpler the light gets)

Re: Xenon HIDs

umm... i don't it's just me or not i feel more blind and more glare to audis, MB, MBWs... those projector lights produce more lights than our reflectors it's because projector doesn't reflect lights that much therefore light bulbs must produce more lights... projector type HID uses D2s bulbs... and reflector type uses D2R bulbs... both bulbs are same wattage, but D2S produce a lot more lights.. both fit in any HID housing, and if reflector type uses D2S it will be so bright that opposite direction cars can't see anything(much brighter than high beam), and if projector type uses d2r bulbs, they will barely gets light on the ground... and i don't feel much better lights on 2000 MBW 740IL and 2002 BM E400(or 430 i forgot) compare to my car... both owners(cousins) were liked mine more... so go figure...

Re: Xenon HIDs

If you want brighter HIDs, you have 3 options (that I can think of):

1. Put D2S bulbs in. You'll be brighter, but likely cause more glare.

2. Put in projectors. Projectors are more efficient at getting light to the road. It's around 60% vs 40% efficiency vs reflectors. Projectors will give you a wider beam pattern too. My lights light up 2 lanes on either side of me, and still have enough light to light up the barriers after that.

3. Put in 50W ballasts. This will definitely give you brighter lights, but our stock 35W ballast is part of the waterproofing of the headlight unit. Plus, you run the risk of blowing out some electrical components. The guy who retrofitted Q45 projectors into his Lexus GS has some ballasts that he can adjust the wattage. http://www7.plala.or.jp/soaristo/

Re: Xenon HIDs

The reason I think that the G35C doesn’t illuminate the street well compared to other HID’s is because the reflector is recessed far back into the light housing, so the walls of the light housing restrict useable light to the ground and to the sides, look at your headlights and you’ll know what I mean. It’s a simple design flaw, which should be addressed.
