Service Engine Light (SEL) light is on + 60k service questions
Service Engine Light (SEL) light is on + 60k service questions
So I was driving on the interstate today and I suddenly noticed my SEL light is on which has me completely worried since I've only had this car for a little more than a month. I got an extended warranty on it through the dealer, so if its something major I shouldn't have to pay anything but its still a pain.
Anyway, my question is that I decided to hold off on the 60k service b/c i'd just had my oil changed. Well now i'm @ 61.7k and my 'Service Engine Soon' light is on. My oil change isn't due for at least another 1k miles...could it be that i need to get the engine serviced for the 60k service? I had a friend who has a maxima saying he would get his light to turn on when it was time for his oil change but I've never heard this before.
Also, any issues with getting this done @ a Nissan dealership v. an Infiniti dealership (nearest infiniti is 2 hours away and I hate their service dept.)...unfortunately I don't really know of any good independent shops in my area any more that I would let service my car.
Thanks,
Sam

I'll give that a try...but before I do, one more question.
Will disconnecting the negative terminal (to reset it) cause me to need the code to the radio? I got the car used and don't have it and with the nearest dealer 2 hours away, I really don't want to have to take my car there if I don't have to. If that's the case I may just try the reset, if it doesn't work schedule an appointment w/ infiniti to get the it reset on the radio and have them do the service if the reset doesn't fix it.

if you would like to solve your sel problem without going to the dealership to figure out what is wrong you can always purchase an obd2 code reader.
Plug it in under your steering wheel into the obd2 port and it should spit out a code describing your problem.

Well, if the radios don't ask for a code when its reset then I'll go ahead and try that first, if that doesn't work i'll try autozone or the dealership to figure out what's wrong.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.
You may also want to check if your gas cap is locked in tightly...I was helping a female friend who had the car after a month and the SEL came on and realize that was it...I believe it is stated in the manual too.
