Put the 260hp in my coupe and give me back $4000.
O.K. today, I raced my brother's g-35 sedan and we were neck to neck. We both have 5speed autos and we raced twice and every time from a stand still to about 80 mph, I was only able to move 1/2 a car ahead of my brother's sedan. Now, as much as I love our G-coupe's, I wouldn't mind if infiniti simply put the 260 HP engine in the coupe and sell it at the same price if not lower than the sedan's price, since the sedan has power recline and memory driver's seat. I would of been very very happy with the 260 hp engine and probably $4000 in my pocket. $4000 for the 20 more horsepower in the coupe simply for bragging rights is kind of expensive. Oh, well. At least IMO the shape of the coupe is worth $4000 over ther 4 doors. Last but not least, I love both cars. Peace and happy motoring.

If all you want is 260 hp for less money you could buy an Altima.
I understand your desire for more speed for your $4k but you answered your own question in a way. When we paid the extra $$ for the coupe, some of it was for styling. Some of it was for the limited production, lsd, better handling, and 18-inch wheels.
Realistically isn't it possible to get a base coupe for about the same price as a base sedan?

The only two points I'd take argument with are "limited production" and "better handling". The salespeople have ben tooting the "limited" horn since it came out, yet every single person who's put in an order hasn't had a problem getting one. They've more than doubled the number my Nashville sales guy told me they were "only" going to make.
The other thing I think of is, give me 4k and I'll get ya better handling, wheels, and even powe than Infiniti gave ya for the price diff Oh well, that's the car industry.

I think its fair to say that the 280hp difference is more than for bragging rights. First, I think you maximize that power using the 6 speed. To maximize horsepower you have to understand the relationship between the horsepower curve and torque curve. The manual gives you a better opportunity to do so. Second, if you have a 6MT, you get the Brembos which make a lot of difference both in stopping ability and longevity (I have heard that the stock brakes have durability issues). Third, the coupe is more exclusive. They may have doubled production, but you do not see as many coupes as you do sedans. Even the Acura TL which has been around only for a few months is more plentiful than the G coupes. Finally, Infiniti chose to market this car as a ***** out sports car instead of luxury GT. That explains the close relationship and driving dynamics with the 350Z. Personally, I think it was a great decision, except I wish they would have put in more sound insulation to give the G a more expensive feel during driving.
I think the G is worth every dollar. In fact, I would have gladly paid 2-3K more if it would have come with certain options like bi-xenon lights, bluetooth connectivity, upgraded stereo, and memory seats (this one is the most important)

Re: Put the 260hp in my coupe and give me back $4000.
Hopefully we'll be able to recover some of the cost difference in the residual value when comparing the Coupe to the Sedan. IMO, the styling of the Coupe justifies the additional cost on the pricetag. I like the sedan, but the coupe just gets me excited to drive a car again. I currently own a 3 series BMW, a nice car, but it doesn't get my adrenaline running like the GCoupe does.
Also, who wants to bet that the memory seat function shows up in the redesigned 05 interior?

Depending on trim levels, the coupe can be almost a 100 lbs heavier and if you factor in build variances, a strong sedan can be pretty close to a coupe.
Since the coupe is supposed to be a sportier car, you need those extra horses to offset the difference.

Thats what I was going to say...isnt the coupe considerably heavier than the sedan? (ESPECIALLY the 6MT). Definately need the HP. But I knew even before i bought the car that if a coupe and sedan raced, it would probably be even. In fact the damn sales people wouldnt let me test drive a coupe a while back, they just kept telling me "oh drive the sedan its the same speed". Needless to say I didnt buy from that dealership.

i was under the impression that the sedan and the coupe had the same engine. I thought that the extra horsepower came from the exhaust system the coupe has...

I shouldn't have said limited but instead "smaller". I don't even look at sedans anymore, there's too many, but when I see a coupe I try to get their attention.

The 6MT tranny itself is lighter than the Automatic tranny. The reason that the 6MT coupe is heavier OVERALL than an Automatic trans coupe is simply because of the heavier wheels/brakes/tires that come with the 6mt option.
And fortunately for the sedan drivers, their car is lighter weight (even in 6mt form) simply because they don't have these heavy wheels/brakes/tires.
To sum it all up, if the coupe only had 260 HP, then it would be slower than the sedan. Be glad that you have the 280 HP under the hood.

Re: Put the 260hp in my coupe and give me back $4000.
Heh heh. It's kind of disappointing to know my COUPE (supposedly sportier) is heavier than the sedan version. I would gladly swap the rims, but I really really like the design on the stock ones. Perhaps if I throw out the useless sh*t in the trunk, the jack, spare tire, and whatever... Haha. Added a JWT / z-tube combo .. I could edge out on a sedan. =)
BTW. I think the G35 is more of a luxury GT than a sports car. Way more luxury GT..
