Looking For Advice on Purchasing

Hello all! I have finally crawled out of the lurker cave because I have saved enough money for a used G35 Coupe. But living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada cars are extremely expensive... I have not yet found one that was lower than $25,000. I want to have some left over for some mild mods too.

I was on eBay looking at cars in the states which I envy for car prices because of it being more realistic compared to Canada. Since I cannot test drive the cars but only see pictures, buying a car from the states on eBay is kind of out of the question. I would love to hear some new ways of finding a lower milage with the price being more realistic.

Thanks!

- Bailey

Do a used car search on edmunds.com or carmax.com in the nearest major US city and drive down to check it out. If it's what you want, get your money exchanged to American dollars and buy it.

I purchased my G about 1.5 years ago at Carmax and was very happy! The car was an 03 with 6,400 miles and I got it for right under $26,000 after everything! I was very happy with my experience and value of the car I purchased!

I agree with Joe Camel. You can view many G-35 on a site like Car-Max to get an idea of fair prices.
I went for an adult driven, well maintained, sale by owner. Why? Simple, I saved about 1500.00 in state sales tax. Not sure of your laws in Canada but where I live you ante up state tax on a used car at the dealership.
My logic was to buy something under bumper to bumper warranty. If anything was wrong, I still had a year to go under the factory coverage and I was no more protected at a dealer than a for sale by owner.
I found an 04 with miles in the high 20's and got it at least 1K cheaper than a dealer and no tax.

I also live in Calgary, and happened to have just bought a g35 a week or so ago (getting delivered in a week-ish!!!) I'll let you know what I did, althought it may not work for you

As you've already pointed out, Canadian car prices are stupid, and way higher than American prices. When I was originally looking at new cars, I was thinking of going to the states.... but what most Albertans don't realize is that we are also in a "price-bubble" here. After doing some research I found out that it is actually cheaper to buy a car in Ontario and have it shipped to Alberta than it is to buy the same car in Alberta.

I am originally from Toronto, and was back there over christmas to see my family. I did all my car searching in Alberta, and while I was in Toronto I test drove and bought a car. It getting shipped by rail this week. If the car is leaving Ontario within 30 days, you can get the PST refunded by the government, or if you talk to the dealer, you can get them to not even charge you the PST.

Either way you go, try to avoid paying Calgary prices for your G35

You'll probably find the answer you're looking for if you ask in the Canada section - https://g35driver.com/forums/canada-36/

Dude, I would just buy it from ebay. Just make sure its fairly stock, low miles, and get it car fax. Shouldn't be a problem with it. And since your dollar is worth more then ours, you win.
