Roof Racks on G35C - possible?

Just wondering if it's possible to mount Yakima or Thule bike/surf racks onto a G coupe, the type that normally clip under the roof (upper rim of door opening) for mounting. I've seen it done on a BMW 330Ci where the guy had the front towers for the racks clipped under the door, in the traditional style, and somehow had mounted the rear towers of the racks in creases in the roofline. Hmmm.

Is roof-rack mounting even possible on the G35?

- Potential G buyer

I have a Yakima bike rack and it was installed on my previous ride. I haven't had the desire to mount it on my current ride because it would detract from the nice lines of the car. ;-)

However, to answer your question, it is possible to mount the bike rack onto the G35. You have to get the proper clips that will work for the window/door frame design of the G35...and since you can't install the rear towers using the rear windows, you'll need an extension kit...which will allow you to install the designated rear window clips in the front windows and have the rear towers set where they should typically be (as if you mounted them using the rear windows).

Good luck!

Ahhhh. Didn't know those were in existence. Thanks!

I agree that roof racks would seriously detract from the flowing lines of the G, but since it would be my primary (read: only) vehicle, I am trying to figure out a way to integrate some semblance of practicality into it . I know it's a hassle, but I'd probably only mount up the racks once in awhile, when I absolutely had to.

Nice to know that it's possible!

Why anyone would want to mount a roof rack on a coupe is beyond me. I guess if it's your only car you have no choice. I bet there's not going to be a lot of space between the bars seeing the curvature of the roof. One thing's for sure, it's gonna be ugly. lol Perhaps they make one for the coupe, good luck.

I understand, that's why I asked if it was your only car. Just be careful on the rack feet by making sure the car is crystal clean on the roof when you install it and make sure you tighten that thing down so it doesn't slide or slip a nanometer. I changed my mind, I DO want to see the picture just out of curiousity. lol
