In which case, lower octane is for limping mode back to where you can get premium fuel.

In the older sedans, where it is just recommended, I haven't really noticed a difference in normal driving (though it might come into play if I pushed the car real hard).

ok so i called the dealership to ask them there opinion. what they said that midgrade would be perfectly fine if your not racing, constantly speeding from the start, or a rough driver. if your trying to save gas due to large amounts of gas used but drive normal or better then normal midgrade shouldnt hurt. if you hear or notice a diference in engine and stuff then go back. otherwise you should be fine.

the guy i talked to said hes used midgrade ever since he bought the car and he gets 20 mpg just as if you were to use premium.

I never noticed before, gas is cheaper in NJ if you pay cash. Is this new or have I not been paying attention?

sure... we are all hating on a guy that has the same car as us but is complaining about like $4 a week

yea and using midgrade gas provides worse fuel economy for our cars, meaning in the grand scheme of things you will actualy spend more money using midgrade then if you were to use premium.

for me, G is costing 360$ a month on gas only... so all in all (After insurance, gas, monthly payments) it is almost 970 that i'm paying... damn thats depressing...

I pay about the same amount for gas and don't consider that alot of driving. Many of us have to deal with those monthly gas payments.

That's not to say its not a burden. It has definately changed my driving habits. But I just don't think cutting 10 cents a gallon is worth it for our cars. Think about it...putting midgrade over premium only saves you $8-10 bucks a month.

There are better ways of saving that small amount of money.

Nothing you guys have done answers that question.

From my experience it does not NEED premium. Mine runs fine without it and I've been using midgrade or regular unleaded for 3+ years now with no issues. No pinging. No check engine lights. Runs perfectly fine.

The answer can be found on your very own gas cap: "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only"

Obviously you can run whatever you want. But Premium fuel is what Nissan requires for this engine.

^^^ coupe says that but not sedan... that's one of the reason's I'm convinced the ECU is tuned different from the factory... that and some various dyno results in product testing...

Sheesh. I am a broke university student and I still cough up the $5.9/ Gallon!! I wouldn't mind the $4/Gallon...
