do these cars really need the premium gas or can we put midgrade in them??

We run Mid grade in our G, but I have a car and have HAD cars stating "Premium Fuel Only" and ran regular for the length of time I owned the car w/o any problems.
I drive about 45k plus a year and can say that I believe that the 93 octane stuff does work better in almost any vehicle, but regular isn't going to cause issues.
Afterall, how many of you use stations with single line feeds? Think about this the next time you buy 93. A majority of users run 87. That line is full of whatever the last fuel used is. So, what, a gallon or two of 87 is going into your car and you're not only paying 20 cents more for it, but you're not putting in 100% 93 octane fuel. Dedicated lines are the best choice IF you NEED that octane you want...
Another thought is how many of us run Synthetic oil? Nissan does not recommend nor endorse synthetic oil and even so, recommends you still maintain the same oil changing intervals. How many of you think you can run longer since it is synthetic? Are you wrong? Nissan says to NOT go longer even with synthetic.
Fuel costs are a major issue for anyone who drives more than a few miles one way to work. For us who drive every day for work, fuel has increased over 30% (for my budget). Seeing that my tank on my car I drive is 12 gallons and I fill up twice a week minimal, that is about 100 gallons a month I burn. When I was paying almost $2 less a gallon, that means I am paying about $200 a month more for an expense I don't get back. Not big numbers should I have a 20 gallon tank or our 36 gallon diesel truck tank, but it is an added expense. Hell, it is almost a lease payment for some of you out there...
Too many people on here are saying it is only $4 more. True, but that $4 more is including the price of fuel has jumped so severely in only two years. What we pay now for fuel is almost double what we paid two years ago and many have not received cost of living increases in pay to offset it. Things like food and expendable products we use that are dependant on fuel are also increasing. It becomes more than just $4 a fill up...
Bashing a guy and saying "If you own a G and cannot afford Premium, you shouldn't own one" is a holier than thou comment and seeing a lot of you guys are running older Gs and are younger drivers, I think that's kinda like the pot calling the kettle black...
Run what you want, but I am here to say that if you run your car hard and spirited and in a performance manner, you need 93. However, if you drive like that, you're not driving a ton of miles a day and therefore it means little. If you drive say 50 miles round trip and in basic conditions and under stop and go or traffic, 87 will work fine. If you drive like me and the car is always being ran 100 miles one way before it is shut off and you do heavy driving and are even spirited on numerous occasions, 87 will work great and the savings can be put towards something that means more - oil changes, filters, fuel additives, etc. Of course, like everyone else here, it is my opinion and not based on any facts so, take it for what it is worth, but I'm not going to bash anyone and feel I am better than anyone who cannot afford the fuel for what appears to be an elitist machine...

Ok, well maybe you did budget the car back in 03 when you bought it and gas was $2.90(Or whatever it was) a gallon. You should be smart enough that gas prices are not going to go down, only up or freeze. Adjust to it, not that hard to do. It's only gas, there are worst things out there that could happen. Cut out that coffee every morning at starbucks and make your own. Or pack a lunch instead of buying one. These are simple fixes. If you are unwilling to adjust just for gas prices because the car you DECIDED to buy guzzles gas, than you have a major problem on your hands.

You know what, hell I would love to have a G that gets 18-20 mpg. I get 13 in my jeep. I am 17 and I accept the hike in gas prices and I didnt even get to pick that I got a jeep. And you think you have it rough
.EDIT** Man you guys beat me to it!

*Edit* Just doing a rough estimation: Intake, Headers, Exhaust, HFC or TPs and a Spacer/MREV will run you over $3000.
Most turbo efforts wind up near the $20k mark when done and redone properly.
These are not "affordable" cars.

Maybe his sister is a tranny...
My clutch exploded in my '05 A4 1.8T with 60k miles, under normal conditions. The car had trans problems ever since I bought it new, which is why I own the G now.
But that's off topic anyway. Sooooo...gas prices suck.

You're 17 and have no worries about house payments, food for a multi person family, drive to and from work regularly and obviously, you're not paying your own insurance.
These are expenses and honestly, they are something we all have to deal with, but saying to simply "adjust to it" isn't looking at the big picture. Again, I am not complaining as I drive 45k plus miles a year for my job, I have a Diesel truck that I use for racing and that costs me over $160 for only 400 miles with a trailer and I have our G that my wife uses. We aren't worried about gas prices, but the increase has caused some budget adjustment in what we do.
Point is that I UNDERSTAND that to some, gas prices have caused them more money and have them budgeting more. Let me just say that because you have a G, doesn't make you someone who is one who owns a luxury car. You are showing you own a G, but you're 17. That means you either work really hard to have bought one or mom and dad helped out or floated the entire bill. If you work really hard and bought it yourself, congrats. You also then must know what it means to have an increase of such a great amount for gas costs. Just since Jan, gas prices have increased almost a $1.50 per gallon. That's "only" $30 each fill up extra and if you work locally and only fill up once a week, it is still almost $120 extra. Now, if you are like some who fill up 8 times or more a month, that is almost $240 more. That's a huge hike in cost of living.
But, again, unless you're on your own and even if you are, it hasn't been for long, you cannot understand how much more we all pay for food, tires, gas to heat our homes, etc.
Also remember, even if you are rich and own a ton of cars and houses, many "rich" or well to do people have little in terms of savings. If you think our cars are a status symbol, that's cool. They certainly aren't big ticket machines. My truck cost more than our G did at retail and it doesn't get the attention... Actually, my truck cost me about $10k more than our G at retail and it works a lot harder and yet, the cost of operation is more than 3 times what we pay into the G...
Gas/diesel prices suck. I think anyone who bashes someone for saying so and stating things like "I don't GAF how much it costs" must have a daddy or mommy floating the bills. It is something that affects everyone and the nation as a whole is talking about it. We'll adjust for sure and many will sell their cool cars and trucks for something more affordable. Whatever one does, they aren't losers for adjusting in a manner that makes sense. If you can afford to keep on paying more and it doesn't cause you to rethink budget, that's cool. I just hate spending money on something I get no return for and I look at alternatives that allow me to reduce those costs.
The owner of the company I work for that does over $600 million a year drives a Prius... Guess he's a loser, huh?

. My dad just went out and bought a new diesel truck for work, they are about $40-$50k, more than a G. Does he need it? No but it is nice to have it. All of his other work trucks are cheaper base models that his crew members drive. That is a need, not a luxury like he has with his new purchase. Now as for your racing trucks. That again is a luxury, NOT a need. My family has our fair share of racing and boating. Its a luxury once again so we are not going to complain. We do not need any of it so therefore it is a luxury. Same with your truck.
Now I understand what you say about the budget and how it is harder to do when you have to pay for everything. But come on now, it is fairly easy. The problem with society is that everyone thinks the "need" the best items out. Because I am willing to bet that most people who complain aboput gas have a $200+ cell phone and a plan that is out of the roof. Simple things like that is what you can do to save money. Now if you do not want to give up those luxuries and still complain about gas and what not. I have no sympothy for you. Sorry.

No offense but it sounds like you do not know the very very basic concept of wants/needs. No one here needs a G35. They can have a civic or prius which are great cars for gas. But the instead decided to buy a G35(Luxury car) which is overall more to maintain and worst on gas. Than they complain. Trust me my friend you do not need that fancy truck for work

Anyways, the truck IS a necessity as it is needed to pull our big trailer. A Ford Ranger won't pull it. Nor will an F150... Trucks cost a lot due to the fact the market pulls it. Nothing more. They certainly aren't worth the asking price. A gas motor truck like mine won't hold the miles I can get and it won't last as long. We run about 25k a year racing and a gas truck would kill us...
As far as phones and such, some people NEED $200 phones. Again, a work issue. A BB is the common business man's phone for email and keeping up with work. I could use a free AT&T phone and make calls and such, but the ability to stay connected is lacking and therefore a poor decision...
You're 17. You'll get a good dose soon enough. Budgets are as easy as you think. Wait until you have everything on your shoulders. Once you get to the late 20s or early 30s, budgets are pretty important. I remember when I was in college - I didn't care what I spent...
Gs are certainly not the best choice for fuel conscious owners, but they are cars that people enjoy and like. That's enough for me. If they need something more efficient, buy something else. Even so, if your car gets 40 mpg, the fuel increase is still going to cause issue with your budget. No matter what you do, it is an increase in living expenses and the fact that the majority of people who work full time haven't had a raise that correlates with the cost of living, they are needing to make sure budgets are intact and followed.

and i can say Shell gas is better then Chevron.
