i consider it abuse when my car cathces air. other then that i tap rev limiter at least 20 to 30 times a day, cruise on the hwy in 3rd gear at 60mph on average, and powershift constantly, when i'm not clutchless shifting. I DO wait about 20 minutes until the oil temp is up and the tranny/diff fluid have warmed up before i start driving hard though, during this period, or when i'm taking a short drive, i never exceed 4,000 rpm. Coming from a world of mostly BMW's, this is the first car that's ever needed an engine replacement as well, and yes, it was burning oil well before i began my "spirited driving"

b4 i had my exterior mods done, and it was just stock, i would beat the living FK out of it, always shifting at 6800 rpm, taking it hard on turns practically destroying the allignment......what can i say....its a G, a baby skyline, and it took all the crap i put it through.....................
but now i TRY and go speed limit
the main reason is cause of gas prices

I would say, bouncing off the rev limiter for more than a minute, drifting into something or someone, and smoky burnouts.

G35 Abuse....?

The answer to your question is, if you feel you're abusing your car you probably are. I respect my car and all things mechanical that's why I
use only the finest oil and change it frequently. Just because it's a car
doesn't mean it can't feel your abuse. Redline....NOT! There's nothing
wrong with hitting 4 to 5K rpms, just don't make a habit of it!

like 350zed said

1. hitting the rev-limited more than once a day
2. doing a burn-out (massive wheel-spin) more than once a day

I red line it about 4 to 5 times a day, yeah, it'll die on me (faster) eventually, but wont they all? it could be an accident, it could be some suspension failure, a tire blows, anything could happen you might lose a leg,

just beat it, it's a freaking car, not your gf

Well I bought my car to drive it. I drive it hard and I enjoy the car. I show it a few times a yr. I didn't buy the car to put t-shirts over the suede and pu$$y foot around. That's what body shops are for.. Thats why I don't polish my suspension or worry about winning best undercarriage. I'm more proud I'm going to hit 100k soon and know I have driven my car...

Glad to know I NEVER abuse my car then!!

I've put a combined 280k on my last two vehicles...I think changing the oil, getting alignments done, making sure the tires are good and keeping up with maintenance will let you drive it for a long time. 6k miles on my G already...but that's because my 160k truck is having AC issues which sucks in Houston. Driving for an hour in rush hour traffic with no AC in 98 degree temp with 90 percent humidity is pretty much what my guess Hell is like.

you guys talk about the g35 like its super fast its not, i had one for 3 years loved the car, but lets face it its not a super fast car, with tons of power, in 6th gear, with your foot all the way on the pedal, the speedometer needle moves very slowly towards the 100 mph mark. its really empty horse power the g35 looks good, but that about it, not hating on the car i loved it and babied mine, but you guys are talkling about it like it does the.25 mile in 11 seconds. the car stock in my opion is slow.

are you one of those people who measures a car's performance by its top speed, and almost nothing else?

if you want a car that has good acceleration in high gear, you'd better be driving something that costs more than the average U.S. house and probably also need to be going downhill

are G35s the fastests cars you'll see on the road?? nope! but are they still lots of fun to drive in a spirited manner?? absolutely!

yup, maintenance is the key, i change the oil every 3k and am very **** when it comes to the parts i put on the car and the fluids and car care products that it sees. I actually put 52,000 miles in a little over a year. By the 5 year mark it'll be a 200k mile car. Driving hard is different then abuse. It's important to let all the fluids come up to temperature, alot of people just see the coolant temp is in the middle and think that means the car is fully warmed up.
Ask alot of car guys, especially with european cars...they NEED to be driven hard, at least occasionally. We would often get a BMW or Porsche wandering in with a misfire or poor throttle response, sluggishness, etc and usually the problem was remedied by a good, HARD drive at high rpms after it had reached proper operating temp, need to get rid of that pesky carbon! On cars with automatics though, i tend to be a little more conservative, as they are still an enigma to me after years of servicing cars. i don't trust them and can't say with any certainty that regular hard driving is really best for them

I never abuse my car, i did half a donut one time and i felt like i hurt her =/

And the dude talkin about flooring it in 6th gear to reach the 100mph mark, thats the whole problem! You can easily do 110 in 4th gear, so it makes complete sense that you think its slow when your in 6th and havent even reached 100mph...

that's why you put it into 4th gear.
