so I was wondering what you guys consider "beating" on your cars... My car is usually at 4-5K rpms and I feel like I push her too hard. Should I worry that I'm putting too much wear on the engine... But she is just perfect at those rpms! I use her as a daily driver for about 5 miles around town and 30 highest every day...

I'd say your beating on it when you're over 5K rpm.

1. hitting the rev-limited more than once a day
2. doing a burn-out (massive wheel-spin) more than once a day

It's not a Buick... it's okay to use the potential your car willingly offers!

Not to sound like I have scientific knowledge over anyone BUTT, I read somewhere that every time you take an engine over 5K rpm, you're shortening it's life. I have a 2K SE Max with 225K and I plan on putting at least 200k in the future on my 2K6 G. I'm sure it's just me but, even my Max burns a heck of a lot more gas when I drive it over the speed limit. I do however, step on the gas on the G every so often. Just my $.02.

4-5K RPM on a regular basis and the slip light comes on in some of my turns almost every day

beating on it would be redline every day.... to me anyway

and think of it like this.... beating on your car increases your heart rate so you can tell yourself it's exercise..... the more frequently you increase your heart rate, the healthier your cardiovascular system is..... which would you rather break first? the G? or YOU? haha

you bought the car now drive it! If you are so concerned about high gas prices then buy a hybrid or ride a bike. It's not going to hurt the engine if you rev it up to the redline every now and then, and it certainly won't hurt it if you go past 5k RPMs consistently. I had a 12 second DSM that I bought with 36k on it and drove it to over 180k, stock internals and block from the factory. Do the proper maintenance and you should be fine. How the hell can anyone buy this car and shift at 3k all the time....that's freaking uber boring, but hey, it's your car!

I personally do not get any enjoyment out of beating the snot out of my car the way you guys seem to be doing it. I rarely exceed 3000 rpms in any given gear, and ususally I am one of the slowest from the lights.
