Did a search... When do I put the snow tires on...

We have a Coupe 6MT and have a set of rims with Blizzak-LM-22s on them. It is currently not snowing at all, but there is a chance this weekend and seeing it is nice today, if I can put them on, that would be great.

My concern is that they are like Racing Full Rain tires - they will slowly get destroyed if driven in dry conditions. I know if the temps are below 45 it is good, but how long until they become junk?

Basically, it snows on and off at times here where you'll get 2 inches and the plows never get to it. It gets sketchy with these Summer Performance tires on and with my wife driving and carrying my son, I want it to be safe.

So, I find all these snow tire threads and nobody really says when to put them on. So...

When can or should I put them on? Wait until snow is constant?

You should probably get those winter tires on your car around now.

They will wear in the dry, but I doubt that they will cause significant or unreasonable wear. Either way, you need to be breaking them in before the actual snowfall anyways since they come with a lube coating (should wear off in like a 100 miles) when you first get them.

Hopefully someone with a bit more experience with winter tires will chime in as well.

Put on your winter tires when your temperatures start going below 50F (10C).
Most summer performance tires start to lose their traction capabilities below those temps.

Thanks, guys. I know they are rated to drive in the dry, but wasn't sure since it is still in the mid to upper 40s here during the day.

Appreciate the feedback - I just didn't want to destroy them with too much dry driving...

mine are now (same tires as you)...and the performance in lower temperature is very significant compared to summer performance tires, can't wait to see how they do in some snow.

I just put on my winter tire setup today as well. Unfortunately, I had a nail in one of my snows.....but had it patched and its good as new..

I usually put mine on in the end of Nov. and take them off in the last week of march if the weather breaks.

The Dunlop Winter Sport M3's seem to hold up pretty well. got a little over 18,000 miles on them going into their fourth season.....
