Man if you buy an exhaust before going FI, you're really only buying it for sound and looks.. There's minimal gains w/ exhaust on our cars for NA.. it's really a high cost/benefit.. You could get other mods w/ that money you'd waste on Exhaust w/out really gaining anything.

MotorDyne will give you the best gains but it cost the most

Are people seriously recommending to go straight to forced induction for more power when he clearly states that he doesn't have much money to play with??

I would never recommend it to someone until they are comfortable enough to be able to blow an engine and not have to ride the bus for 6 months... not to mention the cost of the kit/install/supporting mods/tune.

If you don't do it right, you WILL f**k your motor and it gets REAL expensive real fast.

If you've got an intake and spacer the exhaust does make a difference. Especially when you get a good tune.

I'm running Fast Intentions so I'm obviously biased towards them; but HP-wise all legit dual exhausts are gonna give you about the same performance boost.
Check out the dyno charts from their website if you don't believe me.

Wasn't telling him to go forced induction when he doesn't have money.. Just telling him he'd feel more fulfilled getting other mods than an exhaust on an NA car.. I'd be interested in knowing what YOUR dyno was.. I don't necessarily believe the Dyno from the manufacturer.. They're going to show you info to sell their product.. I too want Fast Intentions when I get my exhaust as well.. But I've read all too many times from reliable sources that the power you get from exhaust is negligible on a NA car.. You can't displace enough air w/ our stock engine to really get good gains to validate the cost of an exhaust system.

I don't have a before/after comparison of just the exhaust but my most recent dyno is posted.
I've got everything but headers, ended up putting down 266.

What does everything consist of? Spacer, Intake, Cats and Exhaust?

Very impressive.. So you got 8hp w/ just a tune w/ your set up? What'd they adjust 2 degrees? That's what I'm trying to get done as well..

I wasn't discrediting the fact that you get gains w/ an exhaust, just that the gains from an exhaust aren't fully maximized until the car is made to displace a lot more air. The 1200-2k that you'll spend on an exhaust for 6hp isn't worth it in my eyes when you can gain so much more w/ a FI car. Just a matter of order of installation I guess.. I'd personally do the exhaust the same time as me going FI, not before because there's other mods I'd do that would give me more benefit..

Just a matter of opinion. Most people go w/ the exhaust first because it's a more common mod than going FI. But assuredly, you're getting more sound and looks than power from your exhaust on an NA car.

For the intake I've just got a K&N filter and the Z-tube, MREV+ and 5/16" iso spacer, and Fast Intentions HFC and Exhaust.

I'm not sure exactly how they adjusted the timing, but 2 degrees sounds right. The most noticeable difference is in the smoothness of the power after getting tuned. By leveling out the air/fuel map it made it a lot more responsive and eliminated all the surging.

I too agree that you definitely need exhaust when you go FI, but my opinion is that if you're gonna have to spend that $1200 sooner or later anyways why not just do it first and enjoy the looks/sound/debatable HP gain in the meantime Also makes your FI buy in $1200 less when you do get it.

But as for these "other mods that give more benefit"... am I missing something? Hook me up, I want some!

Like I said.. It's just a difference of opinion w/ the order if installation is all.. If you're going to go FI, then yes, I'd agree I'd prolly go exhaust before the change but not too far in advance.

other mods that give immediate fulfillment like BBK, Strut Bar, Grounding Kit, etc.. Not necessarily going to give you more HP, but definitely give you more control over your ride. And are worth it for the benefit you receive.
