What am I doing wrong?

What am I doing wrong?
Ok so I've had my car for 2 weeks now, and before buying I was aware of the clunky gears, and all the other small issues that everyone has mentioned...Now this is my first manual car that I've owned, understand that I've driven plenty of sticks just never had one as my daily driver...Anyways, my 1-2 shifts are definitely very rough, the gates in those gears feel so undefined but I'm able to deal with it and it don't bother me much...What is bothering me is, I'm unable for some reason or another to get a smooth shift from 1-2nd...Only way I can accomplish a smooth gear change is by completely waiting for the rpms to drop before letting the clutch back out and even then it doesn't feel completely perfect...It's like it gets into gear and then my car jolts back and fourth...Is this normal, or am I that shitty of a driver...It's ok to be honest with me cause I'm really just looking for a fix to this...Every other gear is butter smooth...Anyone else have this problem, know how to correct it? Or do I just need to read a book on how to drive a manual car? lol thanks ahead of time for your responses...O and to add to my small list of problems, I have a rattle that sounds like its coming from my gauge cluster and another that comes from my passenger seat when theres nobody sitting in it...Other then that this car is a dream, even if I've had the worst day, when I get in it I drive with the biggest smile on my face...Sorry for the long rant, Thanks

The 1-2 shift is tricky and you will get better at it with time. This is one of the more difficult manual cars to drive. I can do the 1-2 shift smoothly but it took quite a bit of practice. Basically, you just have to let the rpm's to drop until the right time and then let the clutch out. It also makes the shift smoother if you apply just a bit of gas while letting the clutch out, because even if your timing is right it still won't be perfectly smooth since the revs are dropping and you just stopped that by engaging 2nd gear. Put some miles on the car, the gates will get smoother with time, although the 1-2 is still quite notchy for me. As for the rattle, my front passenger seat rattles over the bumps as well...you can get it fixed, but I honestly don't care. But I do not have any rattles coming from the gauges.
As for the whole manual experience, give the car some time to "break in" and things will smoothen out, and give yourself some time to fully get used to the car...your driving of the G will get better and better naturally as you drive more and more.

It took me months to get used to the feel, because I was in the same situation ('driven many manual-tranny cars, but this is my first for a daily driver also, not to mention the hardest to shift). The trick--the sales rep actually told this to me when I first test-drove mine and it works--is to give it a little gas (not a lot!) as you start letting off the clutch. You won't get it perfect every time; I still occassionally get "jerky" shifts when I'm not concentrating, but I've gotten fairly comfortable with it over time.

GAS GAS GAS......This beast needs gas to shift smoother. I find that if you dont give it some gas as you are de-engaging the clutch....here come the jerks. Dont be afraid just give it the juice.
Good Luck, and be patient you will get it I am sure.
