Just thought I would share My rear tire experience with everbody. As many of you probably know the 6MT comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 245/45/18 96W tires on the rear. A couple of weeks ago I was unfortunate enough to embed a drywall screw through the top of the tire and out the sidewall. So i call the tire shop and they so no problem have one for you tomorrow, head on down the next day and they have a Michelin Pilot Sport 245/45/18 96Y. It has a different tread Pattern and the 96Y indicates a higher spped rating. The tire guy puts a call into Michelin and the rep indicates they dont make that tire in a 96W. So now im off to the dealer. Same problem as the tire guy but the dealer parts guy makes a bunch of calls to different tire dealers. Finally someone calls back and indicates the tire is a "Consumer Release Only Tire". This means you cant buy one unless you prove you already have the tire installed by giving them the vin # for your car. So thats what i did. Drove around on a doughnut for a week while I waited for the tire to arrive.

It's probably because they haven't ramped up production, and 99.9% of the tires they're making are going to the Infiniti factory for new coupes.

You would think the dealer would have a couple in stock just for this reason.

 

Unless the supply is short enough that Infiniti/Michelin isn't letting the dealers order any ahead of time.. only on an as-needed basis.

I can't remember...are these the same tires as the ones on the Z? If so, there should be a significant number in production...

 

I am going through this right now. I have a donut on my car and it sucks. I hit a huge pothole and bent my rim and ruined the tire. They had to special order the tire from the factory through the dealer. They say that this tire was made especially for the G35 coupe. It makes the car look SO dumb with that little spare tire on it. I want my rim back.

You could always buy two of the standard-type Michelins and swap them both out. Then if it happens again, you're already on "normal" tires. Granted, it's a costlier solution.

Just to let you guys know the dealer wanted $450 for the tire but I bought it from the tire place for $295 mounted and balanced. I dont think that was a bad deal considering the guy had me by the *****.
