Re: Does ur 6MT Rattle at idle
I would bring it in at tell them ASAP, especially if you're close to 12K. Get it checked out, the least that can happen is they tell you its normal, but at least your compliant is on record! SAVE YOUR PAPER WORK!!!

Re: Does ur 6MT Rattle at idle
Can I just state that the car is a manual transmission and the transmission is SUPPOSED to make noise. I have the idle rattle also, where you push the clutch in and it goes away, but if you hold the clutch in for a little bit and then let it out, you hear a noise. These noises are just the transmission and the clutch. 11K miles on my Coupe, I've had these noises since day one and it's still running smooth as butter (I do a lot of hard acceleration, too). It IS perfectly normal...you can get rid of the noises (such as a new pressure plate, or new tranny fluid, or whatever you'd like to try), but they'll probably just come back over time and getting rid of these minor idle noises does absolutely nothing good for your car.
While you guys are complaining, you should also mention how when you put the key in the ignition and turn it, all of a sudden the engine starts making noise. Don't forget that when you push the Power button on the stereo, noises will start coming out of the speakers too.
My point is that if the noises can't be pointed out by a passenger riding with you (who was not previously warned of any noises), and you have no check engine lights lit up and the car drives fine, just stfu and drive.
Oh yeah, and I didn't insult anyone, so don't get all defensive on me. What I'm saying is right.

Re: Does ur 6MT Rattle at idle
I am with you MrElussive!!!! The noise is noticable but heck if the tranny falls out or the throw out bearing goes... guess what.... they will put in a new one for free...and I am sure by the time all that happens the 05 or 06 or 07 tranny/bearing replacement will have fixed the issues. Mine is a 04 and sounds like that from day one... drives great. All you guys putting in new tranny's and such... well good luck cause my 04.5 does the same thing. Go buy a 45K BMW and such and have other annoying issues. I am sure if we go to their message board they have many issues as well.

KjbAlto,
I have an 04 6MT, 1150 miles and I have the same clunking sound when I quickly disengage the clutch out of gear. It's a popping sound. So I presume it's just another noise that comes from this car. This is a very noisy car. It's doesn't bother me, I'm just stating my opinion.

Re: Does ur 6MT Rattle at idle
I understand that the tranny's are supposed to make noise. That wasn't my concern, it always had a little bit of noise from day 1. I became concerned when the noise was much louder then it was supposed to be. It's tought to describe without having anyone actually hear how much louder it was over the "normal" noise. In any case, pieces of a defective pressure plate shouldn't be bouncing around in the tranny. Knowing my luck, the car would run fine up until 60K with pices of the pressure plate inside and then the tranny would die at 60,500 miles, when I would have to pay for it!

Re: Does ur 6MT Rattle at idle
Some of you may be describing different noises. But there is a particular rattle to these transmissions that are normal. I've heard the same kind of sounds from 6 speed Supras. They probably have similar designs as they both use a dual mass flywheel. Supra 6 speed trannies have a reputation of being ultra reliable and durable. There are plenty of 800+ HP Supras to prove that.
