SQUEAKY SUNROOF

Hello everyone, a couple of months ago I bought my G35 coupe, I love it I must say, but the sunroof makes this annoying squeaky noise when closed and not driving in a very smooth surface. The noise sounds like rubber rubbing metal or another piece of rubber. Has anyone had this problem?

P.

The dealership should take care of it for you. They spray some silicone lubricant on it.

I have the same problem. I just closed my cover and now I can't hear it. It really shows the flex of the body though, doesn't it?

It is the rubber seal of the sunroof rubbing against the metal from which holds the sunroof. The dealership will just apply 3M rubber protectant on it. I would suggest buying a tube of Gummi Pflege from you friendly neighborhood BMW dealer ($7.50) and applying it yourself on the seal with your finger, not the applicator. It lasts longer than the 3M version. I applied it about a month ago and so far, no squeaks.

Re: SQUEAKY SUNROOF

Gummi Pflege works.. I've got a new sunroof (2 month ago) and the squeak came back in 2-3 weeks. A new seal will not really help. But Gummi Pflege will work for at least a month if not 2 months.

The 3M spray the dealership will use is only good for 2 weeks each. No use in really bothering them (and yourself) with it. Go with da' Gummi...

The same silicon you use on your tires can be used to LIGHTLY coat the rubber seal so it doesn't squeek against the paint. It is also good for the rubber as well. The squeeking is an indicator that it is dirty and/or dry.
