Throttle lag

One of my gripes with this car is the slow throttle response. When you rev it up and let off the gas pedal, it tends to hang the rpms, causing extra noise and wear and tear.

The gas/throttle response seems to be a little behind the foot is the best way to describe it. Any fixes for this?

sprintbooster will help with the delay but it will still hang when comming down from higher rpms

I can't believe more people don't complain about this. Its a pain in the *** when shifting semi-quickly through the gears, the throttle tends to hang on for a second after you let off the gas...

yeah its the drive by wire throttle, it is annoying at times but i learned to get used to it... i heard there is some type of mod you can buy to increase the response of the DBW but i haven't looked into it....

Look into one of my custom grounding kits. The two biggest benefits that my customers observe is enhanced throttle response and quicker AT shifting.

You can try to reset your ECU and clean your MAF. If you're above 80k miles, might be good to look into air / fuel sensors. I just had mine replaced and while I was having some minor issues from water tearing them up, the difference from before these minor hiccups is still noticeable. (Went through a puddle a week ago, messed up my air / fuel sensors. Fixed now) Feels much crisper / quicker than when I bought it, and I'm only at 50k.

It's not the throttle, I believe, but rather the flywheel that causes the lag in RPM drop. If you get a lighter weight flywheel, the car will rev up and down much faster, but you will pay a price in driveability. It will be a bit trickier to pull away in 1st gear from a stop.

That's only slightly correct. If it's the flywheel as you state then what's the excuse for 5AT guys? They do it as well. Rotating mass weight reduction will have an effect on that but not so much from the OP's gripe perspective. It's most definitely the throttle by wire. Cable operated throttles return on a spring. E-throttles use a signal processed from the ECM. It needs to be commanded to close quicker. It seems this program doesn't allow for that. I'm sure there is a reason of some sort to be that way. For manual guys, I'd think that would be a benefit, not a hindrance. It allows for your RPMs to stay up high enough for the next gear when shifting. It SHOULD minimize bucking for the "less experienced" manual drivers out there.

lol its not a benefit. you have to wait a lil before you put it in next gear, or else it will jerk cause your shifting at higher rpm than you should.

Hmmm...I didn't realize the 5AT's did it too. I suppose the throttle valve or the throttle control actuator could be out of adjustment if the lag is excessive, though it seems to be a programmed function for whatever reason. I can't find anything specific in the Service Manual, but there has to be a rationale for it if it's in both trannies. Other than the noise, I don't find it to be particularly bothersome though.

That's what I'm trying to say - it's not in the tranny program. It has to be in the engine management program. I can put mine in neutral and still have a slow return to idle. That is no load on the motor at all and it still does it. My last car(GM manual) was slow to return to idle. I found it nice that it stayed up long enough to get to the next gear. I never had "jerking" motions from that. It too was a throttle-by-wire.

Most "sprint-booster" authorized dealers allow you to "try before you buy"... I would get one but I really don't care about the lag. I don't race and really could care less.

But if I find a used one on ebay, I'll bid on it.
