Engine Problems? Concerned G Owner
Engine Problems? Concerned G Owner
Okay, so i noticed every now and then when I first start my car I get these weird almost clunking noises. It lasts only a couple seconds and then its gone. When I hear it, it scares the the G right out of me. Anybody else? What is it? My car runs and drives fine, its just occasionaly on start up.
Your engine is f'd most likely.
Another member had the same problem. Some said it was "normal" start up noise. Some said it was just the ABS kicking in... Turned out, he needed a new motor.

My car makes a noise that I contributed to the ABS waking up on occasional cold starts. She doesn't use any oil and that's the only time I hear any unusual noises.....runs great too.

Yea, mine too. It runs great, only notice it on occasional cold starts. Just checked the oil, after 2000 miles not loosing any and is crystal clear. I use synthetic and its as clear as it was when i put it in.

From the link I posted.. The Tech at Infiniti "discovered the problem by accident"... The car did not always make the clunking noise. It only happened here and there and usually on cold starts.
They replaced the valve cover due to the OIL on the plugs. When they removed the valve cover, the tech discovered the damage and metal shavings all over...
So that's probably the only way to find out if your motor is still good. Either pull the valve cover off or remove the oil pan to see if there are any metal shavings.
Again, people all claimed it was "normal" in that thread. So better safe than sorry. Get it checked.

just got this in mine. went out a few days ago started her up and BANG BANG BANG....loud as hell for the first 30 seconds...idled rough.....then went away after warmed up....WTF? only 500 miles on a fresh oil change....oil level topped off and fine....running the same 10W 30 Mobil 1 Synth for the past 40k miles.....i thought the motor was blown......now i'm scared to even start it....
Mine wasnt that loud but still scared me. I moved up to NY and havent heard it at all since i left florida. Maybe it had something to do with the heat and hummidity???? Either way, still running strong!
