Caliper Scratched Need Repair Advice!
Hey,
So many of you know that my car was raped in an accident. Unfortunately, my right front Brembo caliper (the paint job) was scratched and scraped noticeably bad. Insurance is not paying the $1,300 for the new caliper because this is just a cosmetic issue but they did give me a $400 allowance to get it fixed. Now the body shop guy called me to tell me this because he said he can't fix this scratch himself since they use a very special paint on the calipers (it doesn't get scratched or penetrated by rock chips and stuff) that he just doesn't have access to. He is going to do some research to see if anyone in his area can fix it but I don't think things are looking good since he had to call me about this "issue".
Any ideas or advice on how to get my caliper's paint job fixed? I'm don't wanna drive the car around with a fugly right front Brembo caliper for another 2 years. =(
Thanks,
MrElussive

1. I call BS on the special paint. It's just heat resistant. I have several rock chips in my brembos. So do many others.
2. You can repaint the whole caliper brembo red like TCFOOL did. Afterall, they still are brembos.
3. You can get honda civic touch-up paint which is a damn good match to the brembos. If the scraping isn't too bad, you can do that. Inca Pearl. The paint code is Y-61P, part number 08703-Y61PPAH.

Thanks for the help, afr0puff. Here is a picture of the right front wheel (and caliper)
From the looks of it, I only see one or two scratches on the right half of the caliper. Hopefully the spoke of the wheel isn't hiding any more scratches or anything.
I have a bottle of 3M Rubbing Compound, a bottle of 3M Swirl Mark Remover, and a bottle of GS-27 Scratch Remover. Anybody think I should try any of these products on the caliper myself to see if it does anything?

LOL! Those sti dudes totally got that information from the G35 forums. That copy and paste they did came from a post by mustgofaster, who had a G35 back in the day. He trial and errored paint till he found the honda one. I remember his original post, which is why I find it so funny.
But yeah, those scratches are not bad at all, provided the spoke isn't hiding anything. The swirl/scratch removers aren't going to do much since the paint is scraped off. They will only remove scuffs on the caliper. Go with the honda paint. The brembo logo will require more work though... only if you want it to look perfect again. Good luck!

Awesome!! Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I'm gonna buy some of this paint and just fix the ***** myself. Insurance gave me $400 allowance to get the caliper's cosmetic issues fixed but the body shop said I can just use it towards my $500 deductable (meaning I only pay $100 to pickup the car). Oh yeah, and insurance company isn't paying to retint my window since tinted windows are illegal and they only have to restore it to "original condition". $12,000 worth of repairs and they can't fork over $20-$40 to have that side window retinted, lol.

In case anyone cares, I did order the paint pen and clearcoat pen last night. But I have extremely seksy news: I called the auto body shop today to tell him not to worry about the caliper and he was like, "You're right, we already took care of it" I was like, WTF??? Basically, he said he used a rubbing compound or something on it and he removed it...it actually wasn't a scratch, it was actually road debris or pavement or some crap like that. He just wiped the scratch(es) away and now the caliper is absolutely perfect. The guy is just gonna test to make sure the caliper still functions properly and I get my car back [hopefully] next week. I'm so happy you have no idea.

Re: Caliper Scratched Need Repair Advice!
Accident happened on September 23rd (Thursday). Claims adjuster gave it a visit exactly a week later (Sept 30th) and work started the next day. My car is at Eurotech Body Zone in Englewood, NJ. I picked this place completely randomly...searched yellowpages.com for body shops in Englewood and chose Eurotech because it had the coolest name, lol. Needless to say, they have been pretty great with communication and efficiency up to this point. My overall opinion on this place will be formed once I get my fixed G back and see how good of a job they did. Repairs came to $12,000 ($11,846 to be exact) and yes, my next Allstate bill is gonna be complete and utter rapage.
I just hope that the lady's insurance company pays for some of it (remember I am responsible for my car AND hers) because I took my left turn really slow and I was completed with the turn when she actually hit me. She had A TON of time to react yet I was still hit at 45mph. =( It's ironic because last night I was on the intersection coming home from a night class and the person in front of me did the same [censored] I did and the on-coming car was dangerously close but the on-coming car still reacted perfectly in time for the left-hand-turner to squeeze by easily. I wish my luck was like that in my case....I didn't even see the on-coming lady so it's not like I was trying to beat her or beat a smartass or anything. =(
