weird second gear shift?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum but I've searched as much as I can on this and am turning up nothing. I recently bought an 05 6MT and the shifter is kind of weird in that instead of being able to pull the shifter straight back from 1st to 2nd, I hit sort of a bump as it's going into 2nd. This bump is in the bottom left corner of the shifter. It more or less keeps me from slamming the shifter into 2nd and instead, I have to kinda ease it in around the small bump. It's really really minor and doesn't really bother me at all but I'm just curious if all manual coupes are this way? I haven't driven another one so I don't know. If it's not meant to be this way, does anyone have a clue what the little bump might be? Thanks in advance

x3 even though i have gotten use to it. it can be even worse on cold mornings. but if of us are having this experience, it must just be normal, especially if we are all running fairly stock set ups.

Same here. Took a while to get used to it. Helps me to pull it back and almost towards 4th when putting it in second.

Could be the synchros in the transmission. How many miles are on the car and what year is it? I had my trans replaced a few months ago and it never had a bump type problem until now. Sometimes when I shift fast from first to second I grind with the clutch all the way in.

The bad part is that the other trans was fine, I asked a noob question at the dealer, about the rattle/chatter when I turn the car off. They said it was a problem with the trans and that they were going to replace it. Little did I know that it was the same sound as all G's and Z's make due to the fly wheel and stuff.

do not man handle the shifter into 2nd. instead nudge it and let it go in on its own

I have same problem. Its the synchros. Only 2nd gear. I'm used to it.

If you have your windows down and there is no ambient noise outside, you can actually hear the trans go into 2nd gear. Dealer told me its normal so I live with it. Never gave me a problem before. Its more of an annoyance.....

haha, sorry shouldn't have used the word "slamming". I by no means man handle the shifter It's just kind of annoying to not be able to go straight back into second from first. My friend that runs a BMW shop confirmed that this is most likely just the synchros.
