Help with plenum spacer!

Hey guys, I bought my G coupe preowned and the original owner had already installed an aftermarket intake (which I plan to replace soon w/ a ztube/popcharger)... but now I'm looking to get a plenum spacer and do not know if perhaps he had already installed one of those as well. Is there any way I can just take a look under the hood (without pulling any parts off) and tell if there is a plenum spacer installed? or do I absolutely have to take off the engine cover and possibly other parts to see? Thanks! I promise I'm not THAT lazy...just really really busy these days between school and work so any time saved for me is excellent.

1. lift hood
2. remove engine cover
3. find plenum
4. look at where the top meets the bottom
5. does it look like there is a piece sandwiched in between that is a slightly different color

i didn't know either i had to ask the shop when i first bought my car im actually about to install mine

Pop your hood, look at the side of the plenum (do you know what that is?) The plenum comes in two pieces, top and bottom if there's nothing between the two you don't have the spacer. You already have a intake, how do you know you don't have a z-tube? If you have a good intake why replace it with a heat sucking pop charger? Not a great

Thanks for the input guys. Gary, to answer your question, I recently posted a post with a pic of the intake because I had no clue what it was. No one seemed to be able to come up with a definite answer for me, aside from agreeing with me that it LOOKED like a K&N Typhoon Intake. The post is here:

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...fy-intake.html

maybe you could help me out? I know you're extremely knowledgeable, having seen your posts in almost every single thread. I want to replace the intake because I have a suspicion it is experiencing major heatsoak with no heatshield. I've read plenty about the problems with pop chargers and heatsoak there as well, but I imagine it would be slightly better than my current. I live in FL and honestly, when I'm driving during the day, it feels like there's a parachute attached to my car. However, night time driving is far more pleasant. To me, this sounds like heatsoak (feel free to correct me or suggest other problems if you think it's something else).

Already told you boss...its the upper half from the INJEN CAI and then the stock MAF housing with a air filter connected to it.

Hey Nismo, I assumed you weren't sure about this response since you said it was just a guess... I just didn't think it was an injen intake because all the one's I've seen online are branded somewhere on the piping. I don't see any stamps or engravings at all on my pipe.

You are right that it is usually branded. It is branded with just a plastic sticker though. Mine ended up for the most part falling off from the engine heat so i just removed mine. I assume that this happened here as well. It bolts to the plenum just like the injen, the hose connects in the rear just like the injen so i assume its the injen. Only makes sense, but like i said its only part of the injen CAI.

Is there a filter and/or heatshield I can buy to replace the current one? Dunno if you read what I wrote above about it driving like crap during the day, but it just feels like my whole car bogs down in the heat (100+ degrees outside during the day). I already bought a z-tube today...you think I should just go w/ the ztube/pop charger or just get some sort of heat shield (even though I've read that these hardly even help). I just figure it's better than no shield at all?

sorry to bombard you with questions, but do you happen to know if the stillen filter/box works with an OEM z-tube instead of the stillen z-tube? I've read quite a few good things about the stillen intake...or should I just keep the injen one on there w/ a diff filter?

Z-tube really isn't going to make a difference vs what you already have on there. Just pick up some thermal wrap somewhere and wrap the aluminum tube and return the z-tube OR replace the metal pipe with the z-tube, your call. The thermal wrap will at least protect the pipe from the heat.

As for a heat shield there really isn't a shield by itself that you can buy (that i know of). Look into the JWT popcharger...if i recall correctly it comes with a shield of some sort, but it comes with another air filter so it will be expensive. Maybe you can email them and ask them if you can buy just the heat shield.

here i looked it up for you lol

to answer your original question, from the second pic in your other thread it doesnt look like you have a plenum spacer.

Nismo G, thanks for the suggestion. The JWT popcharger was what I had planned on buying to use w/ the z-tube. I can't return the z-tube bc I bought it off someone on my350z.com so I guess I'll just swap out my current tube w/ the z-tube and see if anyone is interested in my current tube. @psycobusa - haha I never realized that the plenum was in open view like that, so I never really bothered checking -.- thanks for pointing that out though. gonna hit up that MD 5/16"!

I recently purchased a 2005 6mt G35 coupe. Just added an HKS replica full exhaust on Saturday. Absolutely love the sound and the performance...whoooo! My question is the big debate on popchargers. I have a completely stock set up and am not looking to gain from sound. Do z/tube and popcharger combos show noticeble gains, or should I replace air filter with the K&N drop in? I've heard that's all the car really needs. Also I live in Florida as well so the heat is a %^$^%$!

From what I've read, z-tube/popcharger really only just give you sound and in some tests, have been shown to actually slightly decrease performance. Apparently the stock intake on the G35 is as good as it gets, but I've also heard good things about the Stillen intake so I'm looking into that myself.
