Insurance claimed my car a total loss...can I strip parts before they tow it away? like my tail lights...I mean they are going to scrap it right...so long as the wheels are on there to tow it right?

You can take aftermarket parts as long as they were not OEM and you have OEM replacements. If you don't you need to talk to your insurance company and see if they will allow you to remove parts without replacement.

Usually what it means is they are literally buying the car from you as it is, for what it's really worth. Therefore they don't let you take parts off of "their" car as it reduces what they can auction it off for.

 

Thought so... THankx bro... my car was an 06 so the lights were already nice and I dont have 05 tails to swap them out with... dammm, but I guess that is fair...

My older brother went through this.

He basically pulled the motor out and stuck a bareblock in it and pulled all aftermarket parts he wanted.

But then again....We live in Texas...lol
