reset the ecu ?

ive searched but havent seen a conclusive answer. i just did the pop charger and z tube mod, and the JWT instructions say leave battery disconnected for 12-24 hours, but i have seen here to disconnect battery and hold brake down for 10 seconds. which is accurate, or are both of these methods wrong?

but my favorite is the disconnecting overnight. also there is a key and gas pedal method right here:
Basic ECU Reset</u>

Operations Procedures:

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” (NOT start) and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 seconds.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone. If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Remember, timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU. You may even need someone's help to do this correctly.

Note: The following reset procedures are directly from the 2004 G35 Sedan Service Manual.

I went thru the steps and never saw the cel, but I did have battery disconnected for about 4-5 hours. How do I know the ecu is reset or not? Also, what is the reasoning behind resetting it?

For the life of me i can't get that pedal step down. I hate it. Feels like im Fing my car up. Tried about 20-30x now. Never seen no blinking lights. Now when my car switches gears its feels like hella lag...... Feels like it holds the gear for like a quick sec then switches. Never did it start feeling like that till i started pumping that pedal like that. Going to try that disconnect pump brakes.

I still want to know what the reason for ecu reset is. I will say the car sounds and feels a lot stronger in the upper rpm range.

I have also tried both methods and cant seem to get my ECU to reset after installing my 5/16 spacer. The SES light will go away for a while (about a day) then come back on, also the car ides around 8-9 rather then the 650 it did before the spacer. any tips? both methods meaning the disconnect the battery and gas peddle methods.

it must be another issue if the light comes back on. i would put a scanner on it and read the codes then go from there.

ok ill scan it. any other thoughts on the idol change? I did not unplug any vacuum lines during the install. Had a friend hold it up while i slide the spacer into place. No air leaks either.
