Exclamation Buying a new car! (G most likely!)

Hey guys, I am heading to college next year and it's time for a new car. I've been a member of this forum for awhile but I've never owned a G35 before. Yeah I know what you guys are thinking, "He's only 17! His parents shouldn't be buying him a G!". Well I'm lucky and grateful to have parents that will be helping me pay for it, but I'm gonna be shelling about 8k of my own money into the car. Anyhoo, I am at a dilemma at what car I should buy. I narrowed it down to either an Altima coupe which will probably be the 2.5 or a G. With my price range, the Altima would be 2008 to 2010 with lower than 50k miles and the G would be 2004 to 2006 with around 80k miles. Now I'd be new to a G, but I'm coming from a 2002 Maxima so the VQ is no stranger to me(both my mom and I have an 02 Max)! The Altima is newer and would probably last me longer and that's a plus considering that I'll have it for a while. But the G is a G! Could you guys help me decide?

Can you do your own maintenance and repairs?

The altima will most likely have warranty and probably be a better financial decision. However, no it most definitely will not be a g.

Buy what you feel is the right car for you.

I would go with the Altima. The last thing you need to worry about while in school is wear and tear issues on an 8 yr old car. However, if the G was properly maintained, it shouldn't be an issue.

I do change my own fluids/oils and I can do basic repairs but not much more than changing out something like an O2 sensor. The current G35 I'm looking at is a 2006 6MT with 81,XXX miles for $14.5K. The owner looked a bit older and says that nearly all of the miles are highway miles. I checked out an 08 Altima coupe yesterday for around the same price with 32,XXX miles and it still is under warranty but I think it will be up pretty soon. I'm sure that the cost of owning the G35 will be a bit more than the Altima but in my opinion it is worth it.

IMO It doesn't really matter if the owner is older..I would ask for maintenance records, receipts, etc. Everything else is lip service..

Smart choice is the altima
Fun and stylish choice is the G. If you can take care of it yourself it will go as long as you make it/is probably not going to lose too much more sale value

I bought a used 05 coupe for 12.5k with 40k miles a year ago. It's one of the best deals I've ever made. I plan on selling it this year for at least 15k. Great car and very reliable.

So I've found a 2006 G 6MT 8/10 condition 82k miles for $14.5,

a 2006 G 6MT 9/10 with 78k miles for $15.9 (still negotiable)

and a 2010 Altima coupe base model with 30K miles 9/10 for $12.8 (Non negotiable)

Any input from you guys would be great.

Wink

While i was hunting for a G.. I went to a Nissan Dealership... I asked if they have any G's the guy says " I have what u are looking for!!!"
He walks me across the street to the Used section... He shows me an Altima coupe 2.5.... Obviously being the butthole that I am I replied... " What the hell is this thing???" He says... " Just replace the trunk with a carbon fiber and de-badge the car and everyone will think it's a G35" - _- for once I was Speechless and just walked away...

That's my opinion on the Altima Coupe....
