Obd Scanner

Hey guys.

I'm looking for a cheap obd scanner for my 04 coupe. There are a bunch for 20 or 30 bucks on amazon and newegg. Just want to make sure i get the right kind (14 or 16 pin? CAN compatible?). Can anyone tell me if there is anything special I need to look for? CEL came on tonight and I just want to pull the code and clear it once I get the problem fixed. Figured having a scanner would be handy in the future as well. CEL is on but the car seems to be running normally. No loss of power and normal temps, no weird noises etc. I won't be driving her til I know what's going on.

Specific product recommendations would be appreciated as well. Tried searching but most threads discuss only high end and tuner devices. I could take my baby to pep boys or autozone but the thought of them touching my car makes me queezy.

Thanks!

Yeah, sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm not interested in taking her to a retail shop. I think having a scanner would be useful in the future as well. Really just lookin for buying advice on a basic trouble code scanner. Both of those options are within a mile of my mechanic as well - I'd just take her there if I needed someone to read it for me (would be no cost). Thanks though.

If you get the amazon/ebay ones they work on cable, wifi or bluetooth. Pretty simple to use, SUPER easy if you have an android because the "Torque" app does all the work for you. Reads codes, history, deletes pending codes.

If you get a real scanner that doesn't need a computer/android program to run, it'll be just as easy but cost a bit more. Try to find a used one, unless you have an android because Torque works great.

You just need OBD2, there should always be 16 pins so I'm not sure what you're reading.

I bought an actron CP9125 Pocket Scan. It cost $55.98 at Amazon. It had 315 reviews with a rating of 4 1/2 stars. I've used it about 3 times. It accurately read the codes. I made the repairs and cleared the SES light.
Comes with a Manual and a CD containing the error codes.

Thanks! I was actually looking at that very model. Think ill pick one up. I had a p0455 code which I think was caused by my gas cap. Cleared the code with a friends scanner and it didn't come back in 60 miles of driving today. In my circle I'm definitely the "car guy" even though my DIY experience is limited to sensors and general car maintenance. Most of my knowledge is thanks to driver. I think keeping a scanner in my trunk would be useful for the future and i just wanted to make sure i didn't buy one that wouldn't work for some reason I wasn't aware of. Thanks!

Unfortunately I have an iPhone and the only compatible ones are heaps expensive. Appreciate the input and I saw a few "Nissan 14 to 16 pin obd adapters" so I just wanted to make sure our cars didn't have some funky proprietary plug. I'd love a Bluetooth adapter that sent live data to my phone even just for curiosity's sake but I can't justify the cost. Gonna have her paid off by January and I'm eyeing a plenum spacer as a "paid off" gift. I've had her since 09 and put 65k on her. She's the first one I've bought myself without parental assistance (I'm 25 and drove Junkers before her) so I'm extremely OCD about keeping her in tip top shape.
