pulled away from an sti this morning with my '05

well... i've only had the car about a week and have already seen my first retard try to race me. i'm driving to work... am about 3 traffic lights away when i get stuck at the front with a red light. i'm rubbing my eyes because mornings suck when i hear some burbling next to me. i look right and there's a shiny silver sti revving its engine. i look in the car and bunch of kids... probably no more than 17 years old... are hooping, hollering and smiling their asses off at me. so i turn back to the intersection and think, "this is gonna be one of those crappy days." as we're waiting for the green they keep revving their engine... and as i prepare for my doom... the light turns green.... i look over... their car gurgles, lurches forward about an inch, and then stalls! hahaha... i slowly pull away and stare into my side view. took them a few seconds to get it going again. they didn't even try to catch back up to me (probably to save the embarrasment and me grinning my a$$ off) so i keep chugging along to work... thinking just how stupid the whole sight was. looks like it's actually gonna turn out to be a great day! just had to share this one! lol. like someone once said, "a car is only as fast, as the driver behind it."

LOL - that is hilarious.

Actually, if the STi was filled with kids, you may have taken them anyway if it was just you in your car. Say it was four 17 year olds at an average weight of 150 lbs. for example. That's 600 lbs. of extra weight they're hauling around, enough to make the STi's power to weight ratio worse than the G35's. Due to the STi's lack of low end torque, the car's performance is seriously compromised with added weight.

Ha ha the same thing happened to me against an STI when the guy totally bombed the launch then grinded into second. When I finally slowed down he zoomed by me mouthing and waving "bye bye" as if he actually walked me. No doubt I was thinking he would win but he couldn't drive at all.

"Due to the STI's lack of low end torque" Huh? Sorry but you have no idea of what you're talking about! My 05's torque is incredible throughout all 6 gears. If you have ever driven one, which i doubt..you would know that the sti's best attribute is torque! Read more, post less.

i didn't intend to start a flamefest with this thread... if we could keep it cool that would be great. no doubt the sti is a monster... i'd never race one head-to-head with my coupe. but, was wondering if the new sti's suffer the same turbo lag as the wrx's? i test drove an '03 a few years ago (wrx) and couldn't stand how slow the car started with the weird jolt after 4k rpm's. i'm also not a big fan of that massive wing in the back.... does it have any functionality to it or is it just for show? just curious here.

I would watch out coming on here talking like that. Though there may be no agreement between statements, quite a few people here do have a good level of respect from others. Just a note for you.

the WRXs suffer from an unusually short first gear followed by an unusually tall second gear along with some turbo lag. the STi uses the same turbo on a larger motor with a better, close-ratio gearbox. Spool is faster (less turbo lag) on the bigger motor and with the STi's gearing, it's easier to keep the revs in the power band from shift-to-shift.

as far as the wing...it offers some downforce (minimal compared to some other, giant, carbonfiber, airfoil-shaped wings ) a lot of it has to do with rally heritage too... i would say 50/50 performance-to-style with that performance being realized over 70 mph

I see you have an 05 G, which means, while you were saving your money to by one i alread had my 03 g35 for a good while before i bought my STI, so don't go thinking that i'm some guest here trying to start trouble. I've been using this site for awhile, And i purchased my coupe when they FIRST came out! So i have something to say about the G or STI, i think i can, because i owned both! And both are awesome cars.

not true, assuming they are stock, from a roll i've pulled on my friends evo and sti (but it was very close). They are modded now however and I stand no chance...
