My wife's key fob (2007 G35) only works about 1 in 30 times and we have replaced the battery several times. I'm just going to replace the fob. I looked on ebay and saw some fobs for sale without the uncut key. Couldn't I just buy one of those and put her key in the new fob I buy? If I go this route, would I also have to get the valet key reprogrammed? The listing says something about getting a new valet key cut. I don't understand why if I will just use the same key and only reprogram the new fob. Could someone please explain the process I would need to go through?

Buy the genuine Nissan/Infiniti Keyfob and just move your actual key over to it.

There is a procedure you can do to program the new fob to work with your car. Here is the procedure:

I think you can get away with just the reprogram. The key should fit in the slot no matter what shape it's cut in.

 

Programming description absolutely does not work for 2005 G35X despite it being listed.
