Question Preasure Monitor

How does the tire preasure monitor work and where are the sensors located? Do they work off of actual preasure or wheel rotation speed?

I know the sensors are located inside the tire. The sensor is wireless and sends a signal to the computer when it senses that the pressure is low only. I dont know what pressure it will send the signal though. Just my $0.02

Ive had my aftermarket wheels on for over 50miles and no indicator light...

Perhaps my car didn't come with the pressure monitor? (not that I
really care)...thought they were a standard item on the G35Cs... no?

From something I read and not 100% sure is that it is standard equipment on the 05 models also it takes up to about 45 minutes of driving for it to register sometimes.

It's standard on all '05s. Not sure about 04 models, though.

I thought mine did too. oh well, one less thing to worry about so it's fine with me. I thought I would be driving around with the indicator with my wheels, but since
its not coming on, who cares!!!

It takes 30miles or so until it notifies you. I know cause I have aftermarket rims, and they come on right about the time I drive for 1/2 hour on the freeway.

Well I'll be danged. I thought the pressure was measured indirectly, such as you suggested by a change in rotation speed. Then I checked the manual, which I had read before. Page 5-3 and 5-4 (for the 04) say that it is checked by sensor "installed in each wheel" (not the spare) and that it doesn't work when the spare or a new wheel is placed on the car. When you mount a spare or new wheel you are supposed to contact the dealer for "tire replacement and/or system resetting".

This leaves a lot still mysterious to me. Where does the rotating wheel get a voltage to send a signal? How do you "reset" the system if you get a new wheel? Is it really not in the wheel, but near it-ie a rotation sensor? etc.

Anybody know? Has anyone with new wheels (there seem to be a lot of you) have an answer? Have you ever had the light go on?

Thanks.

Its inside all 4 wheels and it attaches or is part of your valve stem. Actually the piece has a valve stem built on to it. On some aftermarket rims you can attach it like factory but others you have to go to the extreme and band it on the rims. The band goes completly around the inside of the rim and holds the sensor from disconnecting and flopping around inside your tire. Hope that helps.

also they are activated by motion and have an internal battery that eventually you will have to get a new sensor. Not exactly sure if you can replace the battery or not.
