Speeding ticket with radar detector??
I've got a question for all of you with radar detectors -
Has anyone been given a speeding ticket while they were using a radar detector? I wonder if there were any instances of this happening here.
If that has happened to you, please post your story and what detector you were using. And if you had a detector, but you didn't turn it on when you got caught, well, that was your fault for getting caught, so only post if your detector was on and fully functioning.
I'm not trying to start a Passport/Valentine war, I am just curious as to times when people have gotten caught with the detectors on.
Personally, I have the Passport 8500x50, and it has served me well over the past year. No tickets, and several detections of police radars.

Only Speeding ticket I got was with laser, and you're right, it's to late when you hear the detector go off.
Remember that Laser has to be very close to strait on to your car when they hit you, and they can't be moving. So you have to keep an eye open for overpasses, on ramps, and them sitting in the median on highways.

Not really. I know my route very well, and I know where the cops like to hide.
Anyway. My passport goes of about 3/4 cars ahead get shot with laser. So unless you the lead car. Your not dead.
Even then know the laws and the distances they are using lasers. You can get out of tickets if they are not using the gun correctly.
Cru can continue on the topic!

yup,
i got nailed last week by a 'pig' probably using his laser. My **** didn't go off till he was like 75 feet away from me. By the time i saw him, my detector started to go off. I think he probably saw me and flicked it on.
Hopefully between now and my court date, the pig will have a heart attack or something. Otherwise, L.A. County gets another 200 bucks. What a waste of funding.

well.. this is kinda embarrasing
but ah what the hell
when I bought my cobra 9870 detector, I thought it was a "Cop Detector"
Therefore the day I put it in my car, I sped like I was high, drunk, and cracked out at the same time and hey guess what, I got pulled over.
I was going downhill at 90mph while a cop was going uphill and saw me speeding.
Fortunately, I was very polite to the officer and he let me go without a ticket.
... yay

Radar detectors are extremely useful and extremely useless at the same time. There are lots of times where the radar really saved my *** and lots of times where the radar would have gotten my *** a ticket if I was speeding. I have an Escort Passport 8500 X50, btw. A radar detector is far from a "license to speed" but more like a tool to decrease the risk of a ticket when you are speeding.
Very important rules when speeding:
1.) Know the roads you speed on. Don't speed if you are not familiar with the street. Speed if you are familiar with it and can probably get away with it.
2.) Expect the unexpected. I think I speak for most of us when I say that when we get pulled over it is simply because we "thought" we had the green light for speeding, but that one time we didn't!
3.) Drive as fast as you can get away with. I can do 30 in a 25 zone, 42 in a 35, 50 in a 40, and 60 in a 50 in my area and get away with it. Anything faster than that in my area, and I might as well beg for flashing red and blue lights in my rear-view mirror.
