As far as wifi access points, i dont know of any except like some Border's book stores, starbucks, hotels, etc... I would assume to download the latest traffic info, weather, etc u need to be near one? What do you use?
I have no use for CDs really. All my music is in MP3 form and when Im in my car, Im driving it so DVD video playback is not neededOriginally Posted by DieselCasa
Do you insert the DVD's, CD's through your regular CD player stock with car?As far as wifi access points, i dont know of any except like some Border's book stores, starbucks, hotels, etc... I would assume to download the latest traffic info, weather, etc u need to be near one? What do you use?
Access points are everywhere, just not "official" ones
Everytime you pass through an access point (which is every several seconds here), the traffic and weather info update

I sealed the cut hole with a lot of silicone caulk. Believe me, I dont want that thing leaking and after all this rain we've had I know that water gets i tha corner of the engine bay easilyOriginally Posted by Randys_G
Looks like man! one thing, in this pic, be sure to open that back up and run some heavy plastic over the newly stretch hole...otherwise, when it rain, it'll leak down into that hole and into your cabin, right onto your ECU and passenger floor board. TRUST ME.

A few questions.
How do you play video, through a dvd? If so where is it mounted and what type of player is it?
How does the phone service work, is it via bluetooth? Can that Centrafuse software support that?
How does the weather report work, do you need internet access to update each time?
How does the Traffic reporting work, does it tie in to the GPS and do you need to have internet access to update?
Can you play TV on this PC?
Is Centrafuse software better than Cyote's media center?
Sorry for so many questions.
Dont have a DVD drive because I have no need for DVD playback. Video playback I dont need either but it is possible just with standard video files on the computerOriginally Posted by Gidyup

Phone control works through bluetooth or a data cable and its integrated into Centrause
Weather and traffic is updated via the internet. See above about wireless access points
You can watch TV on it with the proper hardware, a TV tuner card
Media Car is a dead project. Coyote left the community. Centrafuse is my favorite frontend at the moment

I must say, very impressive! This is definately inspiring me. I have every intention of putting a carputer in my next vehicle, whatever I get. Matter of fact, I just received my GPS receiver in the mail today, been playing with it on my laptop, I'm having a blast lol.
Its great to see what you guys have done with your Gs, I was worried about how I'd mount the screen in the event I get a G. (its between a G35 and a 350z at the moment). But now I'm very happy that such a nice looking install can be accomplished!
I just hope I can actually fabricate it well like you, and I don't destroy my car in the process.. lol

Nice! I have almost the exact same setup in my '97 Maxima, but I run Windows Media Center with Xenarc touchscreen... I'm getting a G35 this weekend and planning to do another setup for it...
Since I don't have the car yet, so i'm wondering if the OEM deck has a audio input for G35? if so, what kind?
Also, seems like you use an afermarket product to motorize the LCD up/down, is that right?

Real nice job! How much did the install cost??Are you doing this mod for anyone willing to come up with the cashola??

It's not. god_of_cpu tried it for awhile, but I believe he stated it was too cramped and just too much of a pain for such a small feature (although it would be pretty cool).

The part cost varies depending on what you buy but generally it is anywhere from 700-1000 for partsOriginally Posted by falcon50driver

Very Nice. I am planning my own installation soon.
I will use pretty much all the same parts. The Digitalwheelz LCD screen and housing. The Opus DC/DC power supply. GPS. My DVD player will be housed in the spare glove compartment.
For the internet access I plan on using Nextel's wirelessbroadband, which they have in my area. I'll swap out that Nextel PC card with a Cisco Aironet card, if I am out of the coverage area and can use a friends wireless access point. Just to be clear, by FCC regulations using an access point that is not yours or without permission (non-public) is illegal, Intentional Radiators Sec. 15.204 Part 15.
Now is scanning for open points illegal? Of course not. But knowingly using and authenticating to a private access point is.
Please don't flame me, I'd be lying to you if I didn't hop on a neighbors AP at one point in the past. But I've done my part in educating everyone around about wireless security.

Im sure you dont need more props, but damn that looks cool. I would never try to do something like that. Too scared of messing something up, even though I know thats how you learn.
