Sudden drop in rpms after letting off gas

Hi guys. New to the forums. I’m sure this is a nooby question. When I am under 40mph and hit the gas and let off. The rpms act funny. They drop all of a sudden and go back up. My friend says it’s downshifting? I’ve never had a G or Z so I’m not familiar with this. I have a 17 Titan as my other car. The is a 2006 Infiniti G35 automatic. Gas mileage seems fine. Recently replaced camshaft sensors and the crankshaft sensor. Also replaced PCV valve. I’ve seen posts saying it’s normal and others saying it’s not. What do you guys think? I’m taking a small road trip in two weeks and would rather not take the Titan

Normally a drop or big hesitation in rpms when quickly blipping the throttle like that is a sign of a large vacuum leak. That is not downshift rev matching for an AT that your friend was talking about. I don't think the 2006 had DRM anyways.

Thank you! I haven’t had a check engine light come on so do you think it’d be safe to take on a 500 mile round road trip?

You'll probably be fine if it isn't stalling or otherwise malfunctioning, but it's pretty easy to check for vac leaks. Just spray carberator cleaner around the engine while it's running and listen, if the RPMs change you've found your leak. You might be able to "fix" it easily and quickly depending where it is.

I checked for codes and nothing stored or pending. I’ll get some carb cleaner and test it. Thanks guys! I appreciate your advise

As you can see from my username, I had an Audi I hated. It’s made me paranoid with used cars but the Infiniti has been good to me so far. Audi was one repair after another

Throttle body cleaner not carb cleaner, carb cleaner can damage sensors.
