Fitting Nismo S-Tune Exhaust on 04 Coupe
is there a recommended y-pipe? im not looking into what will make my exhaust louder
The HR engine y-pipe is always a solid choice. Longer primary, shorter collector. Basically the exact opposite of what comes stock on the G35 coupe which is shorter primary and longer collector.
If I went with the HR Y-Pipe I would still need to make the piping go from 2.5" to 3" (since the nismo s-tune exhaust diameter is 3") so i would need to find an extension that makes that transition or have it custom made?
It would definitely be easiest to make that transition at the extension. Call around to local muffler shops and you can probably get someone to make it locally for cheaper than you can get on the internet.

does the y-pipe brand make that much of a difference? Just how different can the same type of steel be? I was looking at the AAM but the Megan racing, isr, or top speed don’t seem bad for the price.
That's the thing, they all use their own type of steel. There's as many grades of steel as there are trees in the forest lol.
As long as it has longer primaries and a shorter secondary/collector like the HR pipe has then I'd just get an aftermarket one because you can get them with a 3" collector and not worry about making a transition in pipe diameter at the extension. I've never heard anything BAD about the ISR pipe so that would be my personal choice.
