I've done a battery swap and now the 2006 G35, 3.5L won't fire up. It cranks, but no-start. The attached image shows the cluster; I'm not getting the "key icon"
while cranking, or during lamp test (it might be defective)?
After some research, I've concluded the BCM has lost memory of the key RFID chip. Is there a procedure to re-learn the key code, or do I need to have
it programmed? From what I see on the forum, there is only a FOB relearn, but not a key process, correct?
Thanks in advance for the clarification. This car was purchased used, and only 1 key available.
I'm located near Toronto, so if programming is necessary, please advise on a shop in the area. Otherwise, I'll hit up the dealer.
Interesting timing, I just came on to post about my car fix after not posting about the car for almost 8 years since I used G35driver and its posts to fix the car yesterday. I didn't want to be a d*ck and read and not post.
What I did:
After I wasted my time replacing fuel pump, spark plugs, then I plugged in a code scanner.
I used OBD Fusion on my iphone and the BFX wifi OBD dongle.
I received code P1610 - car in lock mode.
I tried both keys - nothing.
I tried the key on 5 seconds, off 5 seconds, etc for over 20 times - nothing.
I plugged in the OBD VAG to my son's PC then to car, tried Nissan Data Scan (NDS) - it didn't work - trouble shot by going to Windows Device Manager - the OBD VAG is set to COM Port 3. Went to NDS software, settings, changed to COM 3. First click at connect failed. Second click succeeded. (ignition key was in and placed in the ON position)
Then purchased the NDS after confirming car could connect for about $60 and installed the activation code.
Programmed my existing keys with the Nissan Data Scan. Halle friggen lujah my car started after sitting in my backyard for 1 year.
If you get this to work, don't be d*ck and let the forum know how you fixed your car.
BTW, if you decide to change your BCM from one off ebay (that was my next plan) - remember to get the exact part number directly off of the BCM unit and get the exact same one. I guess there are a lot of different ones out there. For $80 I thought it was reasonable for me to try that next.
I'm old and fat now so I won't be checking this post anymore. GL.

Is your NATS security indicator lamp SOLID RED while cranking? If so then the BCM forgot the key and it needs to be reprogrammed. Call around and see if a local locksmith can reprogram it, usually cheaper and easier than going to the dealership.
They might not be able to since you have a 2006 and some of those BCM's used k-line to communicate.
I don't recall seeing any red NATS icon while cranking; whatever is shown in the image above is what shows during cranking.
The lamp itself might be burned out, so it could be a NATS issue.

No dice. I pulled the harness connectors from the RFID module around the key barrell and could not get the icon to appear.
It's likely burned out, or I still have not met the criteria to illuminate it. Does not appear when key ON test either.
Engine still cranks however, with or without the module connected.
I'll try calling the dealer to see what they recommend, and also skim through the service PDF a bit more.

Are you certain the '06 has a key icon on the instrument cluster? The NATS indicators for quite a few model years was just a standalone LED on the dash, either in the center console (03-04) or to the left of gauge pod.

No, I'm not sure.
But there is a flashing red LED ,.to the left of the steering wheel. I thought it was for a.secuirry system.

I can confirm that the '06 has the key icon on the cluster, at least for coupes that have the Intelligent Key system.

That sounds right. Yesterday I was looking at the picture of the cluster in the '06 coupe FSM and it didn't show any keys. However the schematic does show a red and green key indicator for IK equipped cars.
Edit: I do see the key in the picture now, must have had the wrong year FSM opened.

BUT....WHY did the BCM not lose memory when I disconnected
the old battery (several times, for days at a time)?
That info isn't stored in volatile memory; it should be retained when the battery is disconnected. Mine gets disconnected for entire winters and I've not had an issue. Your BCM may just be going bad (flaky flash/EEPROM device??)
