So how many of you kiddies learned about the Japanese "Nissan Skyline R-whatever" from Gran Turismo ??? I always thought, that if it wasn't for that series of games, then only Japanese people would know what these cars were.

The only problem with that example is that STi is Subaru's inhouse tuning company and not just a model or version of a car.

When I worked at nissan I saw the fairlady badges all the time.

So after reading what you guys have had to say about the nissan rebadge of an infiniti...what do you think about using toyotas iForce V8 emblems on the fx45 and m45?

 

Until I put my rims on, I also change the infiniti emblem on the wheels, and put the Nissan emblem on them. How you like me NOW. SKYLINE SKYLINE SKYLINE ;o)

It isn't completely accurate to state that an STi is not a Subaru model- it is a WRX model inhouse-tuned and offered to the public. It is a model, but the example doesn't pertain to this thread; badging a WRX as a WRX STi is not the same as badging a G35 as a Skyline. The badging of a WRX as an STi when it isn't tuned by Subaru's inhouse tuner (from the factory) is false because the vehicle simply isn't what the badge claims it is. A G35 being badged a Skyline is correct because both models are identified universally as Nissan V35s. Were someone to slap a GT-R badge on a G35 then they would be doing the same thing as a WRX owner falsely utilizing STi badges, as the usage of the badges is erroneous.

 

Not true. If I put an STi sticker on a WRX it doesn't mean I am claiming it is a "WRX STi". What if I have STi brand parts on my car? Putting a GT-R badge or sticker on a G35 is not the same is putting an STi sticker on a base model WRX. STi is a tuning/parts company first, a version of a model of a car second.

I obviously meant someone using STi badges without knowing what STi means and/or in order to mislead other drivers into believing that they purchased a WRX STi. On top of that, simply using STi parts on a WRX does not mean you are driving a WRX STi.

STi is the model first when the STi model is sold to the public from the factory.

It's threads like this that make me realize the huge gulf between those who are in the Import Scene and those that are not. It is really simple, either you get it or you dont. If it has to be explained to you, you will never understand anyway. I dont need to justify to you why I rebadge my car, just like I dont need to explain to those who understand why I rebadge my car.
Now if you really want to get confused, Nissan recently copyrighted the name Infiniti Skyline in Australia.

 

Different markets call for different badging. Everything is marketing, and reaching your market as efficiently as possible. It's that simple. Like Gee said, you get it or you don't. At any rate, they're all V35s, and that is an undeniable fact.
