maintenance costs for owning a G?

so i'm deciding between the new bmw 325i or a g35 coupe. yeah I know they are sedan vs coupe and european vs japanese. I just happen to like both and want to trade my prelude in and then finance the rest.

Both are similar price here iN Canada after negotiations. I just want to know which would be cheaper to own overall throughout the years of maintenance.

My friend just had his bmw 320 brakes replaced after owning it for 1.5 yrs and it cost $450

Ideas?

Our brakes wear out VERY quick but Infiniti does free brake service for 36k miles (on automatics only)

Other than that, expect to pay for oil, gas and wax to keep it looking good

I don't know if BMW offers this in Canada, but here in the U.S. you get a 4 year/50,000 mile free maintenance that covers brakes, oil changes, ect. They don't cover tire wear though. My wife drives a '03 325i and I had to replace the tires at 20,000 miles. The brake pads and rotors had to be replaced also at 20,000 miles. They will only provide the maintenance when the dash indicator says its time though, which is like 15,000 miles. But the manual says to change the oil at least once a year, so they did change the oil at one year even though my wife only puts on about 10,000 miles a year. I have since started changing it myself at 5,000 miles. I think the Infiniti will be more reliable and less expensive in the long run to maintain.

I don't spend any money on it except the usual like oil, tires, etc. G's are very reliable and I think it doesn't cost any more to own than any other Japanese cars. Well, the parts might on a bit expensive side but they're still cheaper than BMW

Brakes are not covered on the 05 models. The G will definitely cost more the first 4 yrs. (no free maintenance, expensive tires and brakes) and the 325 will probably cost more afterwards.

yeah the bmws do have 4 yrs free maintenance here

tough choice.........

also the new 3 series have run flat tires, so if they go flat - $$$$ replace because no repairing

how's the automatic transmission on the G? there's new rev matching in the 05 models, are they silky smooth shifting ?

oh yeah i will be getting automatic, tired of driving my 5-speed manual prelude now

I was comparing the two same cars. You get allot more with the 05 G35 compared to the BWM 3 series in my opinion, and It looks allot better.

I got G35

G35 auto >>> BMW auto. Besides the rev-matching, the auto has been developed for a v8 with 340 ft lbs of torque. Its extremely stout and you'd be hard pressed to find an auto tranny that has been replaced.

Not much difference in maintenance costs between the 2 but a world of difference in looks and performance.
