and for those of you that think that it is noticable that the mileage has been tampered with....you don't know what you're talking about. now days this can all be done with a computer. It's easier now than ever.

But...I would think if you are going to tow the car, you could disconnect the battery and not worry about mileage. or if it's going on a car dolly you could remove the driveshaft.

If you are wanting to roll back mileage....google would be a good start.
Well $hit, its done with a computer? Because I just cracked mine open and rolled it back!

rolling the mileage back is not a felony...heck take the odometer out if you want. It's your car...do what you want. However, trying to forge actual mileage, and selling it...is a crime.

Not true:

Michigan MCL257.233a

(6) A person shall not alter, set back, or disconnect an odometer; cause or allow an odometer to be altered, set back, or disconnected; or advertise for sale, sell, use, install, or cause or allow to be installed a device which causes an odometer to register other than the actual mileage driven. This subsection does not prohibit the service, repair, or replacement of an odometer if the mileage indicated on the odometer remains the same as before the service, repair, or replacement. If the odometer is incapable of registering the same mileage as before the service, repair, or replacement, the odometer shall be adjusted to read zero and a notice in writing shall be attached to the left door frame of the vehicle by the owner or his or her agent specifying the mileage prior to service, repair, or replacement of the odometer and the date on which it was serviced, repaired, or replaced. A person shall not remove, deface, or alter any notice affixed to a motor vehicle pursuant to this subsection.

(7) A person who violates subsection (6) is guilty of a felony.

oklahoma
§47-12-503.

No person shall:

1. Advertise for sale, sell, use or install or cause to be installed
or request for installation, any device which causes an odometer to
register any mileage other than the true mileage driven; 2.
Disconnect, reset or alter, or cause or request to be disconnected,
reset or altered, the odometer of any motor vehicle with intent to
change the number of miles indicated thereon;

3. Knowingly operate a motor vehicle with a disconnected or
nonfunctional odometer on any street or highway with the intent of
misrepresenting the true mileage driven; and

4. Conspire with any other person to violate any section of the
Odometer Setting Act.

so..let's say I rip out the odometer and drive it for five years, and then decide to sell, and re-install a new gauge cluster. As long as I disclose that the odometer does not reflect actual milage, I have committed no crime. At least here in okla. As long as that disclose statement is there at the time of sell, and it states that the odometer does reflect true mileage....you're all good.
