I am utterly unimpressed with my 3 year old G35C as well. For 35,000 Crispy Chicken Nuggets, this car should at least come with its own coffee maker.

I had a warmed over '00 Mustang GT and after having the 'stang and the G35 Coupe, i will pick the G everytime, have kicked myself for not getting the G earlier, but the wallet was low, now i have an 03 G35 Coupe 5AT and am going to do the plenum spacer and the Z tube K n N deal and some suspension mods and that will suit me fine, i love the looks of the coupe and the comfort factor well if you have a G you know already.

all everyone seems to ever talk about on this forum is performance. but what about design? the G35 Coupe is one of the most beautiful cars on the planet, regardless of price. i think we become blind to this fact because we're always behind the wheel of one, and we're quick to forget how we used to feel before we bought one for ourselves and would see one driving by. well, friends, that's how everyone else feels when they see YOUR ungrateful a$$ driving by now.

perspective, kids.

Amen. Any car that does 0-60 under 6 seconds and 1/4 mile under 15 secs is fast. Review the stats and look at how many cars don't. The G isn't made for raw straight line power, Infiniti doesn't claim that it is and a test drive should indicate that to you. If you want raw power, then get a car that has it (like the ugly GTO or Evo) or modify the G. If you want a car that looks better than nearly every other car on the road, is fast, handles well, and is more dependable than most, then a G35C is the car.

+1 and x10

I completely agree. No, the G certaintly isn't the fastest. Nor is it a muscle car, but its fast and (to me) its the best looking car on the road. The G will dominate 95% of all the cars on the road and still be ready for a classy drive. Drive it from the track to the opera all on the same day!

The G35 is a highly optimized balance of everything that counts in my book. A very cool car.

And, thanks to you, I can reliably increase the performance to make it that much more of a well-rounded car.

I'm not exactly sure what those that have problems with the Gs performance are trying to compare it to. Compared to the 3-series (not M), IS, 350z, Mustang GT, the car can definitly hold its on. Up against pocket rockets like the EVO or Sti, with the right driver its not trailing far behind. Yea its no vette or carrera, but it also is half the price.

Yeah, but...

I first chimed in on this thread a few days ago, expressing my surprise and disappointment that my G hasn't turned out to feel as fast as I had expected it to when I bought it. After I read what others had written in response, I realized I had misspoken when I implied the G's torque curve was other than broad and flat, because it is clearly both. And yes, it does result in the car pulling pretty evenly across the engine's rpm range, with a moderate seat-of-the-pants increase as it approaches and passes through its torque peak at 4800 rpm and only minimal drop-off as it nears redline. I just wish this broad, flat curve was higher and/or a little more biased toward the lower end of the rev range, particularly from 2000 to 5000 rpm where I'm most likely to need and use it in everyday driving. For heaven's sake, my daughter's Jetta VR6 has a lot more bottom-end oomph than my G. Yes, yes, I know the G would turn in a considerably faster 1/4 mile than the Jetta but you'd never know it by the way it feels when I tromp on the accelerator fram a 5-10 mph rolling start. One of the "features" of the Revup engine introduced in the 2005 model year is that it gives up 10 lb-ft of torque to achieve an even broader and flatter curve than the previous 270 lb-ft version of the VQ. It also gains an additional 18 hp in the process, but except for marketing purposes and bragging rights that's incidental to the decreased torque drop-off at the high end of the rpm range. In looking over the posts I noticed that most of the G's more staunch defenders have pre-2005 models and/or automatic transmissions, which except for 2006 models means the power characteristics of their engines are different from mine. I have no idea of the shape of the torque curve on non-Revup engines, but I wonder if the differences between the two engines might account for what seem to be widely differing perceptions of the G's performance vs. owner expectations?

You need a MREV PLUS. Its made to order based on your description of what you are looking for.

Check out this link to see dynos of the MREV PLUS.

Short of Nitrous or FI, its the highest performance NA mod you can bolt on. And it really makes a difference!

Didn't you take the car for a test drive or didn't you read any magazine articles about the G prior to purchase? The G does 0-60 in a tad under 6 secs. Did you think that was fast? There are many high end luxury sedans that are faster. The standard for a fast performance car today is a sub 5 sec 0-60 and low 13 sec 1/4. Hell the $70K C6 Z06 does 0-60 in 3.8secs. Now that's fast.

But I knew all of this before I made my purchase, and I still opted to buy the G35 because the G has other attributes that are more important to me than just speed.

Once again, its all about what you're comparing it to. If you want to spend another $30k on your G it can go toe to toe with a Z06 on the track. It wont be as reliable, and probably suck as a daily driver, but you could do it.
There are a number of Gs out there that are pushing 500+ through FI.

Thanks, Hydrazine. I've spent quite a bit of time over the past several evenings searching the archives and perusing the MotorDyne website, and have already decided the MREV PLUS is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going to order one as soon as the weather here in New England improves enough to do the work in my driveway. If only the damned groundhog hadn't seen his shadow last week!

First off, Fast is all relative.

This guy saying that its not fast is just like you guys saying it IS fast. I certainly don’t consider any car under 15 second ¼ mile fast at all. Anything under 14 is respectable to me. Under 15 is pretty normal. Even my AWD, 3200 lb all trac could do that.

Secondly, why do so many of you get so upset and so defensive just because he thinks its not fast? I love my G35, but the truth is, its not that fast. Not for 300 HP, give me a break. You don’t think a 300 HP car should be able to run a 13 second quarter mile?? Hell, at least give me LOW 14s, like 14.0, 14.1.

I come from a stock Turbo Mr2 myself It’s a 200 HP 3000lb car. And stock it can run in the low 14s, and with a 15 dollar boost controller, it breaks into 13s!

The car’s not fast like a fast car should be. Sure its faster than 95% of the cars on the road, but obviously when we sit here and talk about which cars are fast and which cars aren’t, we exclude the ford escorts, and chevy cavaliers, and Honda civics. You compare it to other cars of similar HP. This is probably one of the slowest 300 HP cars there are!

But either way, I love my G. I didn’t buy it to run 13 second ¼ miles anyway so.
