Not too impressed with my G
I took my sister out to look for a replacement car. At a light, an '01 S4 with mirrored windows starts revving. It was a beautiful thing to continually pull away from him in every gear. We show up to look at an '02 Sentra SER Spec V and I put some abuse to it and it felt like my first '89 chevy cavalier (non-z24) just slowwww...
Bottom line- The G's are quick and fun to drive.

just curious
Hello people, first time G owner and first time poster.
My three previous cars in order, 1989 Mustang-11.66@116 mph, 1994 F-150 Lightning-13.89@99 mph, 1986 Buick Grand National-11.32@122 mph.
I think my coupe is by far the best car I have owned yet. It's a whole package. No it's not the fastest but so what, it does things all my other cars could only dream of.

yoooo i had the pontiac firebird, the gt mustang, and ive driven other cars from some friends of mine, now these cars i have had are fast BUT heavily moded, the G is dope fast for being just stock...another thing i might add is that the G looks much nicer than other cars that are just as fast or faster...other than the Bentley Continental (GOD i love that car LOL)...u made a good investment, i think more people will look at you driving a G rather than a MR2...
I just don't understand the various threads knocking the speed of our G's. Presumably, this car is a big investment for most of us. I do alot of homework before spending $30K+ on anything. I've been surprised by some aspects of the car, but certainly not speed.
I've never bought a house and later said..."Holy crap, I can't believe how small the master bedroom is"....

Im new here but what Im noticing is lots of yall comparing the G to your previous "heavy modified" or "Turboed" cars
well duhhhh
Im pretty sure ur previuos car wasnt "that fast" either until u modified it
If u want a stock rocket the BMW M6 will be out I think next month
Ive owned a few fast stock cars & Ive modified a few Japanese imports to be well over 300hp & while Im not impressed with my G35 I am very happy with it & satisfied with the speed, If I want it faster I can spend more $$$$ & make it a rocket

My 2.5 cents...the first time I saw the current gen 350Z that was the car I wanted. However the lack of any back seat made it impractical for me, as there are occasions where the wife and I switch cars and need to haul the kids to school etc. in my car. I also loved the G35 Coupe the first time I saw it, so that seemed the next logical choice. After a few years of "wanting" I finally pulled the trigger and bought my 04 Coupe 6MT. It's like brand new (someone took really good care of it), has every option except Nav, 30K miles and I paid $28K (anything over $30K would have really been pushing it for me). That's a big investment for me since I am the sole bread winner in my household, with a nice big monthly payment already on the wife's Sequoia and the oppressive California mortgage. Up until last month when I bought my G I had been driving a 99 Mazda Millenia for 7 years. So I am in agreement with those who have said "fast is relevant", go from a 4-door 175 hp Mazda to the G35 and the G35 feels plenty fast. No, it's not "Corvette fast", but I think for the money it's one of the best cars you can buy considering features, options, performance etc. Before I bought, the only other cars I considered comparable to the G was the 350Z, Porsche Boxster, and Honda S2000. The cost and/or practicality of these others really rule them out for me. I didn't really consider the Evo or WRX, for reasons stated below in the comments -section. I also didn't give too much thought to hemi Mopars (300's, Chargers) since they have nice hp numbers but they are large and heavy cars, not eactly "sporty".
Here's a list of cars, their current base MSRP, weight and stated HP numbers, along with my comments, for what it's worth:
Infiniti G35 Coupe (5AT)
2006 base MSRP $33,850.00
curb weight (lbs) 3,486
280 HP SAE @ 6,200 rpm; 270 ft lb , 366 Nm @ 4,800 rpm
Comments: cool-*** looking car, even non-car-geeks like it and make comments about how it looks; has a (very small) back seat, enough for the kids in a pinch. Nice combination of performance and luxury.

2006 base MSRP $28,555.00
curb weight (lbs) 3,589
274 HP SAE @ 5,500 rpm; 280 ft lb , 380 Nm @ 3,000 rpm
Comments: only true car geeks could tell the diff between this and a 4-banger Mazda6, which is what you buy if you can't afford a Camry or Accord
Honda S2000
2006 base MSRP $ 34,600.00
237 HP SAE @ 7,800 rpm; 162 ft lb , 220 Nm @ 6,800 rpm

curb weight (lbs) 2,855

2006 base MSRP $ 27,040.00
curb weight (lbs) 3,483
300 HP SAE @ 5,750 rpm; 320 ft lb , 434 Nm @ 4,500 rpm

2006 base MSRP $ 44,490.00
curb weight (lbs) 3,179
400 HP SAE @ 6,000 rpm; 400 ft lb , 542 Nm @ 4,400 rpm 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Handling, Ride & Braking Standard

curb weight (lbs) 3,219
286 HP SAE @ 6,500 rpm; 289 ft lb , 392 Nm @ 3,500 rpm

curb weight (lbs) 3,869
340 HP SAE @ 7,000 rpm; 302 ft lb , 409 Nm @ 3,500 rpm

curb weight (lbs) 3,415
333 HP SAE @ 7,900 rpm; 262 ft lb , 355 Nm @ 4,900 rpm
