Finally got to race an S2000...
There are at least 3 S2000s in my area that I have been itching to race but as luck would have it, I never got the chance until last night. Looked to be an '02 or '03, all stock, top up. Great looking car (but it's no G).
Run #1 - we both line up at a stoplight, I hear him slowly building up revs before he drops the clutch...the light turns green, and bam, we're off. I take a slight initial lead as we both chirp our tires off the line, and he slowly creeps up on me until 3rd. I am inches ahead at this point and start pulling away a bit. Light in front of us is turns red, we slow down...G is up 1-0.
Run #2, we exchange greetings at the light and he starts building the revs once more...BAM, light is green and we're off again with a slight chirp of the tires. Once again I have a slight lead on him through third then ...DOH! I mis-shift! Almost dropped the clutch in second after shifting from 6600 in third but thankfully I caught myself...lose valuable time recovering, S2000 takes a lead, and the score is now 1-1.
3rd and final light - we exhange smiles and greetings again, I silently curse myself for the mis-shift (never done it before) but tell myself there's no way the G loses this one. The light turns green, we both punch it, and I'm up by a hair through first and second, in third and fourth he manages to keep pace. But then comes 5th...and I just took off. I could tell he had it floored, but the G just left him in the dust. I looked down at the speedo and by 130 I was a good 6 car lengths ahead so we both slow down. Chalk one up for the G.
A couple notes: I let him lead at the light and take off first in all 3 races (I always do this). Also, before anyone accuses me of being reckless, this was a 3-lane side road on a sunday evening, i.e. it was DESERTED. So no innocent bystanders were harmed in the making of this race.

Re: Finally got to race an S2000...
Nice! I've run agains my friend's modded S2000 in my 6mt several times, and either we were even, or he pulled slightly. He has the following mods: Mugen intake/headers/ECU, J's N1 exhaust, 4.77 differential, and a couple of other things that probably don't make any hp.
I'm still looking for a bone stock S2000 to run against my bone stock G. I know many owners and should have another race soon.

rstark,
that is not a right comparison, your friend got some mods. Now i am begining to believe that bone stock, our car can beat S2000.
Mani, do you know whether that S2000 is bone stock?

Re: Finally got to race an S2000...
It appeared bone stock. I'd like to think he had an ecu mod or something I didn't see, but probably not.
As I understand it, the S2000 is a low-14s car, as is the G, so it's a close race. The s2k probably has the G beat to 60 though (I've seen as low as 5.2 vs 5.5 for the G).

OK here we go...
I traded in my 02 S2000 Thursday for a 03 Coupe 6MT.
Now i loved my S and i think it is a great car but its hard to compare to the G they are both so different. Where the G starts to fade is where my S would start to some to life.
the S was amazing on the road course's and was ok in the 1/4mile my best time was 13.9 @ 99.8 had exhaust and intake and was on 18's.
I had a Boxster before the S and i like the S much better.
When i was in my S i did beat a 350Z and a Coupe at the stop light drags. The S can be real fast if you know how to drive it.
In the few days i have had my Coupe all i can say is WOW i love it! just waiting for the Greddy Twin Turbos and the NISMO Suspension. I havent got on the coupe that hard yet as i am still breaking it in but DAMN i love those BREMBOS i had a WillWood Big Brake kit on the S and i thought those were awesome but the BREMBOS get the nod in my book.
Hope to have a good time here....

g35mt,
I used to own an S2000 before I traded it in for the G35. When I first test drove the G35C 6MT, I didn't think it was as fast as the S2000, but now I wonder if it can keep up.
As for my friend with the S2000 I raced, before he got his gearing and test pipe (forgot to mention), an '03 S2000 kept up with him giving into the theory that the '02's and above had a different ECU map that produced more power (my friend's is a '00).
However, I went to the 1/4 mile tracks with him and he raced a stock '02 S2000 and beat him consistently by .2 - .3 seconds.

Re: Finally got to race an S2000...
I am jealous, as I am still waiting to get a chance to go at it with an S2K. Based on the stats, I think it'll be driver's race. Can't wait to run into one at a light.

Re: Finally got to race an S2000...
You always let people take off first? That's such a precious waste of race time. I'm totally opposite of that. IMHO the first split second of a drag race is the greatest determinant of outcome. I pride myself in my clutching skill at takeoff (in both stealth mode and pre-revving mode). When I used to race with cars more powerful than mine (which doesn't happen much anymore!), I would be in 3rd or even 4th gear by the time they pass me.

Re: Finally got to race an S2000...
I agre with bsoo... But now that I have my G I don't challenge anyone. I let them challenge me. I figure I have nothing to prove- look what I'm drving
but anyway, if someone revs up their engine at the light, then I rev up first and take off. But if not, I figure that if I take off first in attempt to race them and then they do not respond to the challenge that I look kinda like a show off. So I can see both points

A guy in Hyundai Sonata V6 tried to show off yesterday. I just let him go, as there was a lot of traffic, and he wasnt worth my time.

Re: Finally got to race an S2000...
I let them lead off first because if I win, I want to know it is because my car is faster or I drove better... not because I got a head start.
