Stillen Gen1 exhaust.... looking for opinions please.

For my 2005, 6spd, sport.

I want a good sounding exhaust and not one that sounds "ricey". In other words, not tinny, loud and have that burble on the down rev like some exhausts I've heard. I prefer the deeper tones that are similar to stock but have a more throaty sound and is smooth.

It's hard to describe I know but I'm just looking for peoples opinions that might have heard one.

Thanks!

the stillen is a nice set up, good quality (from what I have read), sounds mean as hell, however I rode in a buddy's 03 with the Gen 1 Stillen, and it was way too loud to be a DD in my opinion, especially for anyone in the back seat. I'm in sales and I have clients in my car all the time, I don't want them to be annoyed with a loud exhaust. I think I am going to go with the HKS rear section and see how it goes, but my friend loves his Stillen and you can't go wrong as they make high quality products.

"DD"? I know what I wish that meant! Seriously... what do you mean DD?

I was told there was no resonance and that it wasn't loud inside the car. Hmmm... anyone else.

AH! Thanks. I'm by myself in my car about 90% of the time and then when I'm not it's just my G/F and she wouldn't care.

Turns heads because it's obnoxious and loud or turns heads because it honestly sounds good?

Can you tell me if it resonates AT ALL inside at any RPM? How is it at highway speeds with the windows up? Any remarks from backseat passengers about droning? Clearly I want to make sure it's not annoying inside the car.

I can't really comment on Gen 1 but I have Gen 2 and it drones. Gen 2 is suppose to be better than Gen 1 in that regards. You learn to put up with it over time and it makes good power. At WOT, you can definitely hear it inside the cabin plus minor interior vibrations. If you like quite, stay with stock setup. Or just change to coupe midpipe, if you like a little better sound than stock.

I have the gen1, and I love it. It does drone, but it doesn't bother me. Yet my wife hates it. When I was looking for an exhaust, I wanted something that wailed, and I didn't care about the drone. After about 7k miles, I still like it. However, it's not the right exhaust for a "civilized" g sedan.

I have had both gen 1 and 2. I purchased gen 1 about 2 years ago. It droned on the freeway and got a little annoying at times, but stilled sounded amazing. Then the gen 2 came out and after countless phone calls to stillen, they advised me that the only difference with the gen 2 was the design of the muffler. So they offered me a deal to buy just the rear muffler section and I love the way it sounds. It has a minor interior drone at highway speeds, but i love the way it sounds at every other point in the band so it makes up for it.

It is prob the best exhaust out there for the sedan. It is amazing on wot in the best way possible. I am a daily driver and i love it. I could never drive the car without it.

Any other questions let me know because Ive had both generations and know exaclty the pros and cons of the system.

Hmmm... what RPM's did the Gen1 drone? Around town is fine I guess as you're not constantly at one single RPM? Is this exhaust so loud that my neighbors will hear me come home?

Loud doesn't bother me (especially if it's only under WOT) as long as it's a GOOD sound and isn't too loud inside the cabin. And if it's loud like some riced out Honda, I certainly don't want it.

Do you know of any sound clips so I can hear what it may sound like? Every exhaust I have ever bought I filmed it for sound and put a Db level so I can show how loud it was.

You can hear sound clips of my Stillen Gen II here (as stated above it is quieter than the Gen I). The Gen I sounds the same only louder. Sorry no Db levels though. The Stillens definitely do not sound like riced out Hondas. They sound great (very exotic).
