Re: gas meter gauge problem

Mine does that too. It’s the worst when I run the tank past ¼ full. I’ve seen the topic addressed on these boards before, but in all honesty, I just ignore it. You can try searching for the previous posts…

Re: gas meter gauge problem

I had both fuel sensors replaced, as mine was doing the same thing. It would go well over the full line, then just stopped doing it. Then after a few minutes, the gauge would slowly go to where it should be.

Re: gas meter gauge problem

Mine’s the other way around. It gets stuck at 7/8 or so, always below the full line, and it never drifts back up to full. But, if I top off before it gets too low (say around ½ tank or so) it doesn’t seem to do this. Maybe I’ll ask the next time I take my car in for service.

Re: gas meter gauge problem

I've had that problem with my 99 maxima and my G... seems like most Nissan cars develope this problem at around 10000 miles, then goes away at around 15000 miles... at least that's what happened with both my G, my maxima, and my friend's maxi (also 99)....

That's the final straw. I just noticed this too at last fill up. I'm trading in this lemon! J/K. Is this on warranty anyone know?

Re: gas meter gauge problem

I have the same problem.I have about 26K miles now. It started about at 15K miles. It doesn't really bother me as the car still gets the same miles per tank and it it just doesn't show that it is completely full. Once the tank gets down to the 7/8th full point the gauge is accurate. As a matter of fact it stays accurate until empty. All cars have quirks of some sort. My Father-in-law had a Maxima that when someone would sit in the back seat passenger side the rear tail lights wouldn't work. When thay got out it was fine. Nissan must have chased that problem 10 times at five different dealers. They never fixed the short or what ever it was. At least we have one of the nicest cars on the road.

Re: gas meter gauge problem

During my last fill-up my fuel gauge hit 3/4 of a tank then sloooowly (as I was driving back home) went up and stopped before Full. I topped my fuel off when I filled up so I knew my tank was indeed full when I pulled out of the station.

Wierd, I don't remember my G doing this before. I have about 5k miles on it.

How have you done on brakes at 26k?

Thank you for saying that, I get sick of people saying such and such car has no problems!

Re: gas meter gauge problem

The brakes still have about 50% left on them per Infiniti Mission Viejo. The 6MT with proper downshifting is very easy on the brakes. The problem with brakes is more with the AT. That much car moving that fast is tough to stop. I really don't get much barke dust either. I don't baby the car either. Usual race to work is at about 90MPH. Every once in awhile I run into a Grey or a White G35 coupe and we have a little race now and then. Just having fun. I really don't use the brakes much. The clutch is doing fine also. They telll me at Infiniti MV the pedal play and clutch wear is right where it should be for a car with 26K miles on it. I guess all the practice downshifting and double clutching really helps. Is your G35 a AT or MT ABQ_G35?

It's the AT, I can see how that would make some difference. That's pretty good that you have that much left after that many miles though, maybe I'll start using the manual mode more! I always try to brake as easy as I can, always have! I've had my car over 3 weeks now, still getting used to these brakes!

Re: gas meter gauge problem

i have an AT and i was wondering when i use the manual mode, what is a good rpm to shift at when i'm trying to drive conservatively, and what is a good range when i want to give it some gas.
but thanks to all for the replies, i guess what i'm going to do is wait it out. i have about 1500 miles until my second oilchange and if it bothers me, i'll just ask infiniti to find out what is going on.

NOTE: You mispelled "shift" in a way that the forum decided to censor.... -Ryo
Edited by ryoken on 11/11/03 07:53 AM.

Re: gas meter gauge problem

If you're trying to drive conservatively, leave it in "D" and let the transmission do the driving. You can't force it to upshift early anyway, as the manual mode only lets you pick the top gear available to the tranny, not the current gear for it to be in. Even when you're driving aggressively, don't try to use it to make the car shift up and down, just use it to limit your top gear for coming out of corners and such. Let the tranny do the shifting on it's own.. as it's going to anyway.
