wtf is with the gas mileage on my car??

I just got my 2003 auto 4 door G35 67k miles,
on my trip home i averaged 20mpg on a highway,,,,wtf is with that?????
is somethign wrong here?
Yes i raced my brother a few times while we were at it. He was driving my Lexus sc400,,that thing is v8 and i average like 24mpg on highway and at least 17 in the city and that is with flooring it very often.....

Are g35s that bad on gas mileage or do I have something wrong with mine???
I really hope it gets better because there are much better perfomring cars like an m3 that get way better gas mileage...

You'll be lucky to get 24 mpg if you are very conservative and you drive mostly freeways.

Yea I guess it's normal, but that's what I get on the highway. Well lately, I think it's been worse... something like 9 in the city and 18-20 on the highway. We'll see what headers do to that haha

I just got my '05 6-speed a couple of months ago and it gets 18-19 city and 23-25 highway. I was expecting a bit more as well, but i can't help mashing the gas pedal all the time, so I guess its my own fault :-)

20mpg is pretty normal, especially since you raced a few times ...

That's what I see in winter 50/50 driving. In the warmer months I see about 21-22mpg in 50/50 driving. In 100% city I'll see 18-19 in the warm months and 16-17 in winter months. I've seen up to 29mpg in 100% highway driving on flat terrain, but I usually average about 26-27mpg in 100% highway driving.

Fuel mileage can be impacted by a lot of things and driving styles:

1) Winter gas 5-10% reduced mpgs
2) Cold starts 5-10% reduced mpgs
3) Cold engine with short (less than 5 mile) commutes 5-15% reduced mpgs
4) Hilly terrain
5) Stop and go traffic and using a quick throttle
6) Altitude
7) Fuel grade and type
8) Larger/heavier rims 5-15% reduced mpgs (+18s will absolutely kill mpgs)

The biggest mpg killers are cold winter starts and short drives. If you do a lot of this driving, you should expect your mpgs to be downright dismal (10-13mpg). Your VQ35 can drink up to 1/2 gallon of fuel in the first 2 miles just trying to warm up. A 5.7 liter V8 can drink up to 1 gallon. Motors run extremely rich on start up in order to get the motor up to operating temp.

I get 18/19 city and 20/23 highway. I monitor it on the fuel economy screen on the navi and make sure i don't go lower than that. It's hard sometimes when you want to get by slower drivers.

Yea it's really ****ty. I was also very surprised when I got the car. But don't go by the other car MPG's either, because ours say 19/27, and they are really like 10/20... so if the corvette says 18/28, it's more like 9/19 lol

Also realize that the corvette is turning 1800rpms at 80mph and the g35 is turning 3000rpms at 80. Gas mileage has got a lot to do with gearing and your driving style. Personally I think the G is geared to high, I don't mind dropping down to 5th gear to pass someone. You should have read online what the g35's actual mileage is before you had purchased it. A lot of car companies over rate their mileage on their cars.
