NYC G35 Owners = Some Advice Please

I live in Queens, NYC. I am in the market for a G35 Sedan. I saw a G35X with 11,485 miles, Nismo Kit, Brilliant Silver, Willow interior, dealer wants
$25k. KBB trade in say $22k for excellent condition.

I also found a nice 2003, G35 RWD, with 35,xxx miles, Nismo Kit, Brilliant Silver, Black Interior, and the dealer is asking for $18k. KBB says $17K for excellent conditon.

My question is how important do you NYC drivers think it is to have an AWD drive car as opposed to a RWD car. I drive to work everyday, and it doesn't snow often in NYC, and when it does the roads are plowed pretty quickly, unless it is a huge storm.

I just would like some advice as to which is the best overall deal...and whether or not AWD is an essential $5k must have. Doesn't the RWD G35 Sedans come with some sort of traction control for the snow and slippery conditions anyway?

Thanks In Advance.

I would look at it like this. For extra $5k you are getting not only AWD but also a lot smaller mileage. Another thing to keep in mind is if the X model is 2006 it has a 280 hp engine as oppose to 265 03 model.

Thanks Mr. O. That's a major factor I was looking at too. How much did you spend on your 06x and what the mileage, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks again.

Well it wasn't a straight forward deal because I was trading in my 05 maxima that I still owed money for so it was a little more than I should have but I am loving my G so it is all good. It was 06 g35x with 11000 miles.

Hey QBturbo, this is my view on it...

You don't need AWD is NYC, because it almost NEVER snows. And when it does, they clean it up in less than a day. Also, the X model is slightly slower than the RWD because of weight.

If I were you, I'd look for least mileage, clean car fax, and a car from NJ, PA, or upstate NY.

Thanks Mr. O, Tk and Diesel. All valid points. But I have to say, that after deliberating for a while, Diesel has a very good point. I will be checking out both cars this weekend and will check the carfax on both.

I've got a 6mt (RWD of course) and I do just fine in the snow with my Avon M550s. Good all season tires are all you need for our weather. I think there's lots of X's out there becasue of marketing and maybe for the people that don't trust RWD in the snow, only because that they don't no how to drive them.

I'm surprised to see an X with only 11k miles, if you mentioned it has a Nismo kit then that would make it an '04. Be careful that it's not a service loaner. Most are X's like at my dealer.

Thanks NismoV35. I am stongly considering the RWD G35 with 35,xxx miles now. I totally understand your comment about people not knowing how to drive a rear wheel drive vehicle in the snow. This would be my first RWD vehicle, but I think if you proceed with caution and have the proper tires in rain and snow, a RWD vehicle should be fine in NYC. Besides when the roads are not plowed, even AWD vehicles are not out in the streets.

I sometimes slap my car in RWD mode in the snow - I learned that even with the X, VDC still does 60 or 70 percent of the work...

the thing is, you could push the x ridiculously far...it just has endless grip
