Just changed my belts and have a squeak

Ok I just installed two new gates belts. I double and triple checked all the bolts and the tightness of the belts. When I rev my car now around 5k when I let off I get a squeak. Anyone had this before? Any idea's of what to check. The rpms at idel look right at 650. and the squeak is only in the higher rpms! The PS/Alternator belts seems to hop a bit around 5k but the belt is tight!

Sounds like it's not tight enough. Or it's too tight and the bearing is going out but that should be more of a constant squeak. Since it's squeaking at higher rpm's it sounds like it's slipping to me.

The main drive belt should have 1/4 to 1/2 turn on it. The A/C belt should have ~1/2 turn.

Take a straight edge along the belt, find the center of the belt between the widest span of the pullies, push the belt in with your finger with about 20 lbs of force, and measure (estimate) the deflection of the belt. 1" of play sounds way too loose to me, but I've never looked up the FSM specs because it's been my experience that these belts last well over 100K miles in most climates.

I think they mean one inch of play overall, when you move it up and down, it should have about an inch, so that's 1/2" in either direction. When i do belts, i leave a little less than an inch of play overall.

I had the same problem with my gates belts. They squeaked only on start up. Took it to the dealership, they said that the belts aren't perfect matches in size because these are aftermarket and gates makes these belts to fit wider aray of vehicles. It's been awhile but I think they said the belts are too tight and they are slipping on the pulleys when the engine is first started or under hard and sudden acceleration. Go back to the nissan oem belts and you will never hear the squeaks again.

The quietest belt made are Goodyear Gatorback. I have them on my car and not a sound. They have gaps to help them go around turns. Great product.
